What bothers me is that the UN would even be considering accepting those terms. How are nations that are still supporting Syria and bypassing international sanctions and sending them weapons going to "monitor" what's going on the ground objectively? It was bad enough for the Arab League, they were stalked and harassed by the Syrian government and witnesses were intimidated before their arrival in certain places. Assad's a smart guy and he's not going to let in any monitors from nations that oppose his rule. He can just play the "Western interference" card. I don't know if you've ever listened to the guy talk for any length of time, but he's pretty much the master of spin and has an excuse for everything. When asked about his neighbors isolating Syria he just smirks and says "no one can isolate Syria" or "if Syria is weak, you'll allllll suffer".This is the guy who says the United Nations is "useless" and when asked why he sends representatives he just smirks again and says "cause we have to play the game, you see".
BTW, this is not some US-Russia tit-for-tat game. I have no problem with Russia in general, just their foreign policy when it comes to Syria. If it were any other nation, I'd think they were just as horrible for supporting a regime that slaughters it's own. You can go ahead with the "but..but..US supports the Saudi's..blah blah", but it's the same deal. I think that's awful, too. I care more about humanity more than I care about standing behind my home country's policy decisions. I don't like how human beings tend to clique up and ignore the horrible things their own do to show solidarity. That's not me, man.
