A group called the Abu Omar Battalion has reported that the Army has pulled out of Midan in Damascus and left their equipment behind.

Also AJA just reported explosion in 4th army barracks in Damascus.

Also, opposition claims that it was not a suicide attack and that rebel insider planted a bomb inside the building, left it and detonated it remotely.

Let's not judge what is Christian and whats not other defense ministers killed several times more people than this one.

    STOP defending the rebels!
Nobody cares about human rights or whatever, ITS all about Sunits fighting Alawits and Christians!

Are you really that brainwashed, every near east expert will confirm you this!

Option A, some foreign power will not risk it and bomb it, hopefully destroying all of them
Option B, they won´t and region may be very seriously fvcked

Well, it better be secured and not sold to terrorist groups on the black market, or one day some western cities could wake up with terrible headaches... I'd hope it could be secured by foreign SF from the NATO or that the new regime gives strong guarantees, verifiable under inspection by the UN.

Leaving materiel and equipment behind sounds like a debacle.

Option A seems unlikely. The stockpile is probably big if not huge and not concentrated in a single area/warehouse as was the Lybian 10t of mustard gas.
I am afraid to lean toward option B

Thanks, explains my difficulty in finding it.

So as a running count that's:

Minister of Defence Dawoud Rajha - Dead
Deputy Minister of Defence (and Assad's brother in law) Assef Shawkat - Dead
Minister of Interior Mohammad Ibrahim al-Shaar - Wounded
Head of National Security Hisham Bekhtyar - Wounded

Sounds like the rebels managed to penetrate a meeting of Syria's Crisis Cell.

Riad Assad (no relation to Bashar) who's commander of the FSA says Operation Damascus Volcano has been planned for a while now and that they'll do their best to avoid any civilian casualties. Tanks have surrounded the Presidential Palace and other key government installations.

Leaving materiel and equipment behind sounds like a debacle.
Probably figured it's not very wise to stick around.
