Syria faces 'hell' if no deal to end crisis - UN envoy

Syria faces a stark choice between a political solution to end 21 months of bloodshed or "hell", United Nations peace envoy Lakhdar Brahimi has warned.

Mr Brahimi, speaking after talks in Moscow, said the conflict had become more militarised and sectarian.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov agreed talks were the only solution.
But he said Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's removal could not be a condition for talks, as demanded by the Syrian opposition.

Mr Brahimi, who arrived in the Russian capital after talks in Damascus with President Assad, expressed concern at the escalation of the war.
It risked becoming "a mainly sectarian conflict, with dire consequences for the Syrian people," he said.

Interesting how Brahimi insists that Assad should not be removed, unlike Kofi Anaan's position towards the end of his time as UN envoy...

If you can not stay on topic, do not post. You are also not a Mod on this forum. If you are interested in a holiday from this forum, keep it up.

I see you just give me an infraction, very well, I deserve that for calling out Climber calling me shyt, just to be sure, did he also get a infraction as well? Or maybe it is ok for people call me shyt and when I respond and defend myself I break the rule, but it is perfectly ok for you to call other people shyt on this forum?

btw, feel free to ban me, if you do that, just shows more of your hypocrisy.

I am more than happy to accommodate a member in their request. If there is anything else that I can do for you, ask.

A scenario that does not involve Assad stepping down is not realistic by this point. It may have been possible at the beginning, but things have gotten too horrible and too bloody. There's too much anger and bitterness for that to work now. The Baathist regime could still survive if he simply resigns and hands over power to subordinates at the very least.

Hanging the tags is the easiest thing. Precautions will come in handy when there are many who want to kill him.
You named person a criminal. Do you have grounds for such accusations?

Yes, sir. Assad is a terror sponsor and namely listed by the US State Department.

If we are counting both destroyed on ground and in the air, it may be. We have at least 2 dozen videos, maybe more, in photos and videos sections of destroyed helicopters and jets.
