Marines Work Through Compressed Timeline to Qualify Before Deployment

    hires
An M1A1 Abrams tank with Tank Platoon, Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, awaits its turn to begin the tank gunnery range exercise aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., March 11. The Marines took full advantage of the time given, working extra hours to ensure they are qualified in case they are needed during the MEU’s deployment. The Marines and sailors of the 22nd MEU are currently deployed with Amphibious Squadron 6 aboard USS Bataan Amphibious Ready Group and will continue to conduct a series of progressively complex exercises designed to train and test the MEU’s ability to operate as a cohesive and effective Marine Air Ground Task Force.

Well firstly they're not painted that colour, the plastic is that colour. They aren't clear underneath a coat of yellow paint.

Secondly, if we spent our days checking every single yellow jug in Afghanistan we'd never be able to cover the ground we do on patrols. Afghan family compounds tend to have a collection of around 30 to 40 of these jugs for water collection and use. Not to mention all the shops and carts with piles of these things.

While it is true that in many IEDs these jugs are used, there are more practical ways of locating these than doing random spot checks on a foot patrol.
