Default Book says SS man who arrested Anne Frank became intel officer in postwar West Germany

Hamburg author Peter-Ferdinand Koch recently found previously unknown documents showing that Silberbauer was drafted after the war into BND, the German intelligence agency, where he served for many years as a recruiter. Indeed, he was one of the 200 SS veterans who were employed by the agency. The fact that many BND officers were Nazi war criminals is well known, but this is the first revelation that one of them was the man who played a part in the death of the girl who became a symbol of the Holocaust.

It is widely known that the BND loved their Nazis.

    Well, it's a no-brainer.

The Second World War ended and the Cold War began. The Soviets became the new enemy. Former experts of Hitler's Third Reich now saw themselves forming the core of the new intelligence agency in a post-war Germany. It would have been foolish to dismiss their expertise on this field, imho.

    Besides, who cares today?

So if some Western agency would recruite i.e. former Al Qaeda people, that would be ok?

I see nothing wrong with that. Why not use your (former) enemy's skills to your benefit?

Ofcourse , some years later nobody should care , despite all the atrocities commited by them and their organizations. Better to recrute a die hard nazi then train some new people.

If it serves the ultimate goal, I guess yes.

Besides, what's your point? Evil BND recruited former Nazis to fight Communists?

It's not a no-brainer at all. He was an active and it seems, quite an effective participant in the deportation of Dutch Jews to their deaths. The only thing that sticks out to me on the information here is that Josef Silberbauer seems to have behaved in a reasonably civilised way when arresting Anne Frank and her family. That apart, he probably knew full well where they were going to end up and the chances that they would survive were going to be very slim if not at all.

He even served a prison sentence for his crimes, yet he was still employed by the BND. This seems to me to indicate that he was in fact, looked after by his war time friends and god knows what he and his colleagues did in turn for their friends when they were in these jobs in the service of West German intelligence. That's quite astounding when you read in this report that there were apparently 200 SS veterans working for the BND. It's a revelation of what happened in postwar Germany for many former Nazis.

And these new people would have come straight out of training with their former contacts from past times, huh?

Steak-sauce no need to say more, it is already clear that you are a ss fanboy. By your reasoning police should hire pedophiles for work , since they have the contacts and the knowledge.

You say that it is okay that SS people do not pay for their crimes and work in highly sensible areas of the new german state. In my eyes it makes you look like you have very positive feelings towards the ss.

They do. Just as they recruited former left-wing and seperatist terrorists accross Europe. Big boys games....
