"Modified propulsion" probably means installing Improved Kilo diesels. 8)

Can somebody summarize the situation? Somehow I don't know what sources one can trust in that matter.
I thought the Sankt Peterburg was already in service with the Baltic fleet? Not true?!
So what is Plan B if the LADA program runs into prolonged problems, surely they won't stop the program?

More than likely continue to build modified Kilo's till they fix the issues of the sonar system. Since it seems they are doing just that.

    The bullet points:

    1) sonar was having major trouble, but this got fixed
    2) propulsion is having trouble generating power. Something like 60% of full capacity.
    3) Sankt-Peterburg is commissioned, but only semi-operational

Plan B is more Improved Kilos.

So the sonar is working? Now problem is (still) propulsion system? Well, at least they are going along and hopefully they can get it going.

Well that's normal when you develope something new, no reason to give up. You go forward, fix the problems, and have yourself a great product.

    1) Currently built 636 Varshavyanka - is this comparable with regarding noise, "avionics" to u-212 or S-80 ? or this is one generation older?
    2) Are there foreseen in 677 Lada project any vertical missile launchers as in "Amur"?
    3) Any news regarding new torpedoes for submarines or since 90 nothing new appeared?

New reliable replacement torpedo is a headache that nobody don't want to acknowledge. I suggest reading this thread

as for development tree see this picture:
    Torpedo -

From what I gathered "Fizik" did not become operational torpedo, and was acquired on a small scale mainly for testing, UGST, UGST-M are export variants of Fizik. That means that almost 40 years without a operational torpedo comparable to Mk48 ADCAP. All hopes for a new torpedo dubbed Fizik-2.

    mine -

And they are not giving up either , giving up Lada or Amur now would mean they have nothing new to offer in submarine export market in the next 20-25 years and that would be a big dent in conventional submarine portfolio. The Kilo wont last forever no matter what one says about it and wont compete well against modern western conventional types AIP equipped submarine , so a AIP and Amur is the only way forward.

They are offering Amur to india with VLS Brahmos and AIP and the remaining two submarine would see getting into service when they figure out how to sort out the engine problem which is not beyond their means.

Few comical website keep coming with some story which takes a life of its own on the internet.

Soon we will see the new Su 34 built in 2011

After long delays, 12 December 2011 on the Russian Air Force air base in Voronezh (Baltimore) came from Novosibirsk the first four of the six built this year at the JSC "Novosibirsk Aircraft Production Association" (NAPO) and transferred to the Air Force bombers Su-34. Прибывшие машины несли камуфляжную окраску и бортовые номера с "01 красный" по "04 красный" (совпадающие с номерами самолетов первой войсковой серии постройки 2006-2009 годов), регистрационные номера "RF-" отсутствовали. Arriving vehicles carrying camouflage coloring and side numbers from "01 red" to "04 red" (the same number of aircraft first series of military construction 2006-2009), registration number "RF-" no. Ожидается, что в ближайшие дни из Новосибирска в Балтимор перелетят и два остальных самолета Су-34 постройки 2011 года, причем они будут иметь новую серую окраску. It is expected that in the coming days from Novosibirsk to Baltimore flights and the other two Su-34 Built in 2011, and they will have a new gray color.

I am not sure if I got messages correctly latest posts on referenced thread were not super optimistic with regards to current status of torpedoes development in Russia.

So Russia might have for some time efficient and silent modern subs but without teeth ...
