Russian Air Force Tests New Air-to-Air Missile

The Russian Air Force is testing and will soon deploy an advanced tactical air-to-air missile that will greatly enhance its operational effectiveness, the service's commander Col Gen Alexander Zelin said on Tuesday.
The missile will be carried by MiG-31BM Foxhound supersonic interceptors/fighters and will subsequently be used by other warplanes, he said.
The weapon is “currently in trial at an Air Force test site,” Zelin said.

It looks like they also improved the position of the safety mechanism, as well as the sights and buttstock.

Any info about the internal mechanism artjomh? Will the AK-12 feature a balance recoil system for better grouping?

What's the "new" missile? One of the RVV-BD test or something else? It does not seem clear at all what this new product is. They seem to guess it is RVV-BD but do we have better info or not? Only speculation so far?

Judging from the picture it does not have a balanced recoil mechanism.

    Awesome news:
MOD to get over 100(!) IL-476
    http://lenta.ru/news/2012/01/24/il476/

Interior troops to get 20 Rubezh-20 UAVs
    http://lenta.ru/news/2012/01/24/rubezh/

Man if that IL-476 deal actually gets fulfilled we'll have a completely modernized air-transport group! New Mi-26, IL's, Antonov's. ****ing awesome.

Indeed. If... I love my Russians but there is work to be done to get the supply chain in shape to get such numbers out the door.

I like being an optimist xD

And in retrospect, a few years ago we would have snickered at the idea of having 2boreis done, severodvinsk done, bulava done, three stereguschy class corvettes, the pak-fa as it is, all the other stuff.
So slowly but surely we're moving up in the world

If the above images are correct then the AK-12 either doesn't have a balance recoil mechanism, or its radically different to both the AK-107 and the AEK-971.
Notice the tube above the barrel continues on from the gas bleed off channel all the way to the iron sights on the 107 and 971

This tube is where the balancing mechanism is housed:

Whereas on the AK-12 image the tube is exactly the same as on a normal AK-74

Being super honest I'm not sure its the best design that it could be. I think they're trying to push through a nice gun with tons of rails that they won't need to sweat as much over. Then again, maybe I'm totally wrong and this thing can bear sand, ice, water, heat, punishment and can shoot one inch groups at >500m.

Guess we'll just need to wait and see.
