I guess the aim is to prevent creating a shrine of the person. But buried in the sea within hours of announcement?
I believe it has more to do with the whole "Has to be buried within X days from the moment of the death". And that the announcement was made way after the event happened.

Anyway, great job for the US and the whole ISAF forces in Afghanistan.

The stench here is overpowering. This level is also home to the wood of the suicides- stunted and gnarled trees with twisting branches and poisoned fruit. At the time of final judgement, their bodies will hang from their branches. In those branches the Harpies, foul birdlike creatures with human faces, make their nests. Beyond the wood is scorching sand where those who committed violence against God and nature are showered with flakes of fire that rain down against their naked bodies. Blasphemers and sodomites writhe in pain, their tongues more loosed to lamentation, and out of their eyes gushes forth their woe. Usurers, who followed neither nature nor art, also share company in the Seventh Level.
Wha? thats it? i thought they make you listen to Justin Beiber and all her freinds song all the time....

Former ISI head Hamid Gul speaks about Osama like he was a holy man ( now on al jazeera).

So if you had any doubts about ISI helping Bin Laden ...

Funny to think that I was 9 years old when 9/11 happened. Congratulations but the fight will not end. We are not fighting a man but an idea.

I understand that as per tradition the body needs to be buried within 24 hours. Well since when do we care about HIS tradition? He has been a wanted man for the past 10 years. He was a prize catch. He was a trophy. His head should have been mounted at the Washington DC Country Club next to a moose.

I think it was rather quick. Not the best decision. This way it will only cause more conspiracy theories.

No evidence, the body disposed of, quite nice, anything to shift the focus from his VERY DOGY BIRTH CERTIFICATE. All for votes.

Since not doing would've unleashed a massive blowback from the area who already hates the 'un-crescented' part of the world. If the US did what you were suggesting the jihadi propaganda would've had enough indoctrination material for 3 generations onward.

If they did something with his boddy that the muslims found unappropiate, there would be american soldiers and UN personel in Afghanistan that would have to pay for it with their own lives,

oh please, it's nonsense like this that will make the republicans loose in 2012 and possibly beyond that

yes it's a victory for Obama and by god all the liberals are jerking off to it like it's the greatest thing ever, but there was never any doubt that Obama will win in 2012 anyway, so from my perspective this changes nothing

Today, many decades later, my grandfather & other Afghan elders’ wisdom silently resonates in the halls of the National Security Council in Washington, DC. Almost ten years into the Afghan war, the United States finally admits through its top soldier, Admiral Mike Mullen, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, that Pakistan’s military, especially its Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) is allied with America’s enemies, Taliban & al-Qaeda, and a “fake” and dishonest partner, with American blood on its hands.
Diplomatically, Washington’s approach to convince Pakistan to do more in the war against terror has miserably failed. It had failed during the Bush administration and it continuous to yield no results during the Obama administration. Pakistani generals are clever; they demonstrate military operations in South Waziristan to fight the Pakistani Taliban, while leaving the North Waziristan untouched. And if there is ever a disagreement between Washington and Islamabad, Pakistan knows how to blackmail NATO/ISAF by halting the supply convoys, which is vital to NATO’s daily operation.
While numerous revelations point that Pakistan supports Taliban terrorist network to fight Americans and Afghan security forces in Afghanistan.........

Buried within 24 hours as far as I know, and he was dumped at sea because they offered his body to some of the neighbouring countries, but no one wanted the body.
