LOL just imagine how the crazy leftist press would've reacted if ubl were killed during GW's presidency.....
I lost all respect for AI given their completely one sided coverage of issues like Gaza. For me they have no credibility. There is simply no pleasing them, they live in a dream world.
@ KoteMoRe
Left is perhaps the wrong term, its just a general term I use to define the bleeding heart types with no clue that run NGOs like AI, and who I see/deal with at uni on a daily basis.

Rumour has it he was betrayed by his deputy Zawahiri

US troops were led to al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden by his own deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri (pictured below), because of a simmering internal power struggle, Saudi newspaper Al-Watan has reported.
I just got a law enforcement message via txt message "The possibilities of reprisal resulting from the death of Al-Qaida leader forces us to be ever vigilant."
I wonder if there is anything we should be worried about with domestic terrorism. Feds shut down a "Midwest Jihad group" that was planning an attack on the Mid-West a few years ago, based in my wonderful state. An undercover agent witnessed the testing of suicide vests. Apparently they just couldn't get anyone to actually wear the vests, go figure.
Any members of al Qaeda who have been able to enter the USA for an operation have done so at considerable effort and operational expense. I highly doubt they're going to go off plan and move up the date of an operation just because UBL is dead. I suspect that the AQAP will try to send another "underwear bomber" or some other sucidial lone wolf moron to blow himself up or do their best to convince some psycho loser here in the USA to do something like Fort Hood.
Right now if you're a member of AQ you're probably too busy being on the run and wondering just how much of your operation is blown. The members of AQ may not know exactly what intel bin Laden had at his residence. They're probably questioning each other trying to figure out what the USA could have obtained by watching him the last few months and through analysis of his possessions. Which of their accounts can they access now? Which couriers can they still use now? What schedule and meetings do they need to abandon now? What contacts in the Pakistan government do they need to question the loyalty of now? Not to mention who is the head honcho? Who is "officially" in charge. Is a Saudi really going to take orders from an Egyptian?
Like Dinero said in "Heat" if they've got one you've got to assume they've got all of you. If they're at all intelligent they're dedicated right now to damage control in the extreme. I suspect that bin Laden kept some things to himself as well to secure and assure his own position within AQ. I'll bet his death will put on hurt on them financially and will definitely harm some of the connections UBL may have had with rich donors. All of their money men are probably running for the hills right now. Who is going to try to funnel AQ money right now? Nobody, that's who.
I get the impression that the whole thing is handled so badly that it is starting to turn into a mess. There are simply too many versions and contradictions by now. Was Osama armed or not? Did really only one single person offer resistance with a firearm or not? Were kids or women killed or not? Etcetera. By now, more and more conspiracy theories come up, claiming that the whole thing is a scam, especially since Bin Ladens corpse was so quickly disposed off and President Obama refuses to have the picture of the dead OBL published. (Why is he even doing that? Because he is afraid to offend Al Kaida with it?)
Let's face it: the reputation of the US for being truthful is not immaculate anymore, not since Powell's show before the UN about Hussein's alleged mobile WMD bio-labs. In the case of Osama bin Laden it would be crucial to make clear beyond the shadow of a doubt what actually happened and that the SOB is really dead. So, why is the whole thing allowed to become such a confusing mess? Why these contradictions? Wouldn't it be better to publish a crystal clear official version of the events of that night, based on the debriefing of the participating soldiers? And to publish fotos of the dead Osama as well, no matter who feels offended because of it?
Indeed, Obama is handed something as perfect as having American heroes raid a secret compund and kill America's most hated enemy, and he is bungling it. I hope the WH takes a deep breath and simply comes up with a clear statement.
As for the photos, it is a damned if you do damned if you dont situation. Perhaps the image really is all brains and smashed watermelon gore.
Nonetheless, the wishy-washy way the thing is being handled will end up turning even the most staunch patriot into a conspiracy theorist.
The WH's efforts to handle everything correctly is pissing off everybody, it's poor politics and poor leadership.
C'mon Obama, show some leadership and get this thing taken care of! If he doesn't soon, his golden moment will turn into a fiasco.
There are some things you could never state completely honest.
For example you could never officialy admit a targetted assasination of bin Laden, even if it was the right thing to do.
Russians have never truthfully disclosed similar operations either.
So if the SF had shot bin Laden after having him taken into custody would you want the WH to disclose that and threw the SF under the bus?
