Indeed, and if Spain annexed Newcastle (though I wonder why they would want that place!) then for the first decades there would have been a lot of complaining and a lot of noises from the UK but after sufficient time Spain could (and would) use exactly the same argument.
Although I have a feeling that just like the Spaniards are complaining about Gibraltar today, then I think that the Brits would complain about a Spanish Newcastle, even after 300 years....To be honest I think you would both use the other's arguments if your roles had been reversed. But I am sure neither of you would admit it...
Oh well.
Luckily for the UK Spain is now an ally and besides, Europe has become civilized the last few decades...No more land stealing.
Then, after all,you seem agree with our arguments because in some way you're admitting that Gibraltar is a colony.Exactly! There is no native Spanish population which want to be Spanish. So why force Spanish rule on them against their will
Firstly,Spain what wants is its territory(which was stolen and its people moved out as I have already said in a few times)back. However, the main problem is all these descendants from the first colonizers who currently live in.
Secondly,if that wasn't possible, what we want is that our territorial waters be respected at the "Bahía de Algeciras" with regard to the Treaty of Utrecht. In adition, another important worry is the drugs smuggling in our territory with base in Gibraltar, whose authorities are oftenly more a problem than aid.

Question:TRETY OF UTRECHT
ARTICLE X (Gibraltar)
The Catholic King does hereby, for himself, his heirs and successors,
yield to the Crown of Great Britain the full and entire propriety
of the town and castle of Gibraltar,
together with the port, fortifications, and forts thereunto belonging;
and he gives up the said propriety to be held and enjoyed absolutely
with all manner of right for ever,
without any exception or impediment whatsoever.
But that abuses and frauds may be avoided by importing any kind of goods,
the Catholic King wills, and takes it to be understood,
that the above-named propriety be yielded to Great Britain
without any territorial jurisdiction
and without any open communication by land with the country round about.
ARTICLE XI (Minorca)
Moreover the Catholic King doth in like manner for himself, his heirs and successors,
yield to the crown of Great Britain the whole island of Minorca,
and doth transfer thereunto for ever,
all right, and the most absolute dominion over the said island,
and in particular over the town, castle, harbour, and fortifications of the bay of Minorca, commonly called Port Mahon, together with the other ports, places, and towns situated in the aforesaid island.
Which of the two cases seems to Guantanamo?
You're seriously butthurt huh ? Go to Gibraltar and buy some cooling cream to rub on it, I heard it's cheap to shop there. Secondly you might want to buy some history books. OR much easier, just read some of the posts here that are loaded with FACTS about the situation or carry on following your deluded mindset.
AMRAAM,
When you live by the sea, you get the water you see... live with it.
Or if you want, we could go back to 1999-2000 and discuss the Spanish fishing fleets which illegally fished in Canadian Territorial waters.
How about Spain sets an example and "de-colonises" Ceuta and Melila first.....?
I have been trying to resist posting because of the many arguments and baseless insults on these kinds of threads because of sovereignty issues between Spanish members, and basically everyone else. Just ends up in a flame war, like many times before. The marine incursions by Spanish vessels (Spanish Navy/Guardia Civil) into Gibraltar waters are getting more common, but sadly it is because of the lack of decisive action by the Royal Navy and the continued policy of appeasement of Spain over maintaining the integrity of Gibraltar waters. The local Royal Gibraltar Police and the Gibraltar Defence Police operate Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIBs) which is a totally inadequate response to the large Spanish patrol vessels. The Royal Navy's HMS Sabre and HMS Scimitar (These are small fast patrol boats, LPVs) can only be mobilised at one hours notice, meaning that by the time they get out there, the incidents go unchallenged. The Gibraltar Government has been asking for the MoD to review the operational arrangements so that these assets can assist the local maritime response teams in a timely fashion. It remains to be seen what will happen, but I fear things will only get worse before they get better, as is human nature.
If you have any questions on the situation feel free to ask, I live here in Gibraltar, and I am British. I will answer sensible questions, no pointless flaming please
Butthurt??By whom? You?I guess you're kidding me..You're seriously butthurt huh ? Go to Gibraltar and buy some cooling cream to rub on it, I heard it's cheap to shop there. Secondly you might want to buy some history books. OR much easier, just read some of the posts here that are loaded with FACTS about the situation or carry on following your deluded mindset.
Yes,thanks for the advice concernig to buy some history books, but if you don't mind I won't buy them in Gibraltar.I don't want to read pirate histories about great British heroes like Drake,Hawkings,Jenkins or great victories against the Spaniards like which led by Vernon in Cartagena de Indias.British haughtiness ftw!!!
Are you talking about the "turbot war"??If that's right then you should know we had the support of the entire UE exempting the UK.Such a weird thing!!Or if you want, we could go back to 1999-2000 and discuss the Spanish fishing fleets which illegally fished in Canadian Territorial waters.
I think someone already answered before on this thread to a similar question..How about Spain sets an example and "de-colonises" Ceuta and Melila first.....?![]()
