The sling tackle when the arm is pinged has been a suspension magnet for a couple of years now and a player with 50 more games up wouldn't have made the same mistake. Nothing to see here, move along.
Yeah true but maybe a one game would have been sufficient, he's going to learn not to do that - but 3 games is still a bit harsh.

Matty Lloyd is actually a pretty clean player and he got pushed and the Hawks player kind of fell into the tackle...not as bad as it was made out to be...awesome day for footy though and it makes it more interesting - normally its handbags at five yards in AFL

Aye, that hit was pritty hard, but thats just part of the sport. What upset me was everyone fighting over it(not the ball) as oppose to tending/standing by for the unconscious man. Of course the ref. was trying to continue the game after the hit...but i dont know enough of the sport. Back to lurking...

It is still a sling tackle. 1 week or 3? It's hard to know with the tribunal. The way Dangerfield's melon bounced of the deck wouldn't have helped.

It is important from a team point of view to stand up for your mate on the gound and remonstrate with the offending player. It quickly becomes a melee with other players getting drawn in and it looks worse than it is. There is usually lot of jumper pulling and shoving with the odd jumper punch. It is a good way to settle nerves and or unsettle the other team and the first to settle usually gains an advantage.

As for old mate on the ground, the training and medical staff get to the injured player quickly and that last thing they want it is the rest of the team crowding around.

There was 30 years of Hawthorn - Essondon dislike behind that. They played 3 grand finals against each other in a row in the 1980s and were the two dominate teams for about 15 years through the 80s and early 90s.
Our sport is also a lot more tribal than what you'll see in America. James Hird's grand father and father both played for Essendon, then he was one of their greatest ever players, now he's their coach, Michael Tuck played 426 games for Hawthorn, his son now plays with them, the Captain of Essendon is Jobe Watson, his dad Tim was the third youngest ever person to play AFL at 15 years old, he went on to captain Essendon and played 306 games.

3 games is harsh, he must be carrying points.

Heh, none of that bothered Lloydy one iota. Essendon: keeping the Hawks honest since 1984. And Khalifah, it's just the way our sport works. You poleaxe a bloke on the field when his head is down, expect the other 21 players to be on your hammer.

I think the best part was Cambell Brown running off and pointing his finger at the Bombers bench yelling "Come On"

    ^x2 that was alright.

I see, so its not as much the sport as it is the people where its played. Interesting

The appeal didn't work. 3 Weeks for a tackle and the bloke he concussed is playing this week...

^^ I know it sucks ass.

BTW for all of my American Bretheren here is a reason you should support the Demons with me....(

(to the tune of A Grand Old Flag, an American marching song)
    It's a grand old flag, it's a high-flying flag
It's the emblem for me and for you
It's the emblem of the team we love
The team of the red and the blue
Every heart beats true, for the red and the blue
As we sing this song to you
    (what do we sing)
    Should old acquaintance be forgot
Keep your eye on the red and the blue
Oh, the team played fine in the year Thirty-Nine,
We're the Demons that no one can lick, lick, lick
And you'll find us there at the final bell
With the spirit of Twenty-Six, Six, Six
Every heart beats true, for the red and the blue
As we sing this song to you
    (what do we sing)
    Should old acquaintance be forgot
Keep your eye on the red and the blue

Besides the obviously kick ass emblem
