email is needed for the buddy invite program. Not sure how this relates to steam since i always play eve as standalone and not thrue steam.

It's download through Steam but you use the EVE launcher stand alone.

Steam has nothing to do whit your account. Account side of things is all CCP. So you can make a new trial account using ANOTHER email. Its how i made my second account back in the day.

I havent played wow. I played this game for many years though.
You will be spending much time on belts moving icon from box to another or waiting for the ship to travel. Alcohol makes it easier.
If you seriously get in to it it can be fun. PVP and corp management are best part of the game.
