Interesting read.
Read more: http://www.korean-war.com/Archives/2.../msg00045.htmlThe Battle of Seoul during the Korean War demonstrated that armor, with its
ability to survive on the battlefield and produce large, concentrated
amounts of firepower, was an integral component of the combined arms team.

Really good article. This one is related - the Marine's participation in the Battle for Seoul. More combined arms, but the tanks are definitely important. Plus, it's a free pdf book. Bonus.

Kudos, gentlemen. Thanks for sharing.
Agreed great article.....
I wonder how Seoul would compare with Fallujah in terms of heavy combined arms operations?
Always good to have multiple tools in the toolbox.
With increasing global urbanization I wonder if it's possible/easy to effectively merge the two capabilities("precision" with "heavy" urban ops) in the same unit/command or would an environment where the need for one exists, negate the need for the other?
Or would it be like use of force at the battalion or higher level......ramping response up and down quickly to match an ever changing threat and keep the firepower footprint and negative media spin to a minimum?
One could imagine naughty folks working both angles.....masking an unexpectantly heavy defensive position to catch out a light/precision urban assault team......or presenting a heavy defensive position to be smashed by tankies/artillery and getting nailed by the media in a "come on" for excessive use of force against civilians.
And I thought being a section commander/platoon commander in the urban fight is a hard job.....being a battalion commander in a complex urban fight doesn't sound like it would be much of a picnic either....whoops! I turned a block of civilian apartments in to a parking lot.....whoops! I turned my high speed guys into hamburger assaulting a concealed fortified position.
I don't know jack about anything but a little bit of light infantry up to the company level.......but I know there's a big gulf between COIN door-kicking and going Godzilla on Tokyo.
Are there any current/recent tankies on the forum that can contribute?
