AP said it was a cartel checkpoint on a highway, which suggest these dirtbags are operating with a great deal of impunity. It seems like if it gets much worse we're looking at, if not a failed state, something almost as bad.

Yep, the have killed many officers in that same region before. All that northern territory is controlled by the Beltran-Zeta alliance.

Those men where trained by the military, but a cowardly tactic such as an ambush is something no amount of training can protect against. The group involved with the murders are being searched for, and when the army finds them I hope they receive no court hearing. This criminals have demonstrated how violent and disgusting their existence is. So let the UN santion us, what we need is mano dura. It is what we need to deal with these orginizations since decades ago. Rest in peace to the brave men who fought to the death with the will to survive and return to their families. And shuredgefan it was not a "narco checkpoint",those political comments don't belong in this thread.
There where counted 15 vehicles who in them where 30 gunmen, They outnumbered the officers.
@ siempre_leal, the PGJE suspects the attack was made by gunmen from los zetas.

Rest in Peace to the police officers and I hope the injured gets better. Another reason why helicopter and UAV escort should be looked into.

RIP Mexican Police officers. Good luck to their colleagues and other forces in rooting out the scumbags.
