It isn't difficult. See my post above. Anyway, what's difficult about coming here, working, and getting a green card? If it is such a hassle, don't come.

    Damn.

Smoking crack much? US military is probably the easiest armed forces among western nations to allow foreigners to join. In fact, one of the E-5 sgt in my platoon just got his citizenship a year ago and he was from Thailand.

My suggestion is to find a big, fat American girl and marry her. That will get your citizenship real fast.

That's what I really meant. I realize that once you recieve permanent resident status, joining the US military isn't too much of a problem. However, I feel that the US should make it easier for those who wish to join the military to immigrate into the States.

Receiving US citizenship while in the US Army is not the hard part....getting your Green Card in order to join is!

To make it easier, what the US should do is allow the US Military to act as a employment sponsor when applying for your Green Card......that would make a WORLD of difference....

But hey, I'll stick with the CF instead =)

Perhaps, but I'm willing to bet that you would rather fight beside a Canadian (or whoever else for that matter) who wants to be there and believes in the fight than beside some draftee from San Francisco who's just counting down the days till he goes home.

Some can make it. But ask how much progress those have done who have posted here and wanted to join. Seems that will take years , to get a job there and all ? Chances winning the lottery are very high here if I remember correctly but that not is true for other places.

Not really , you could get motivated people basically for free. What is cheaper drafting people (political suicide) or just a few motivated people in without them having to manage huge bureacracy first.

As for terrorism , the chance someone is a terrorist/OBL sympathizer is the same like in the Us unless they recruit actively in Saudi Arabia

edit: the conclusion is , yes it is possible but it is so complicated it is obvious they dont really want these people. imho

you are speaking out of ignorance. Getting a green card is not as easy as you think, for canadians, in the nafta agreement which i received a copy of the statements that relate to me from the US Embassy in Ottawa here, its stated that you need to have a unique or hard to come by skill to work in the us. A us company or place of work has to sponsor you and prove that they need you and they cannot find anyone in the US who can do that same job. So not easy at all, as for relatives, I have an aunt who is an american and lives in NYC, but that is not closely related it needs to be a parent or brother sister if I am not mistaken. So no its not so easy, as for marying someone, heck I would do it, its only paper work and id enlist as soon as I had the green card.

I'm not speaking out of ignorance - we just have very, very different definitions of the word "difficult". I don't think getting a Green Card is difficult. The means to do so are clearly stated. I think a lot of people here are fussy because it takes some time and perserverence, things that many of today's youth are unfamiliar with... It seems that everyone wants to be able to cross the border, find a recruiter, and say "I'm Canadian, and I want to enlist." Unfortunately, that is not how the system works. So, if one is serious about joining the U.S. Military, make a plan and go for it. Just please stop the bitching about something that you can't change...

    Just some thoughts...
