Whose mission to to uncover the historical facts buried in ancient text that is not yet a common knowledge. They do not have a narrative to justify; they are just looking for the truth. The same truth that the Chinese government is trying to cover because it doesn't fit their narrative.
The most notorious case is the history of Manchus. Chinese government started the Northeastern Project to justify their present day occupation of Manchuria, as well as erasing the shame of Manchurian colonization of China until 1912, by claiming that Manchus were just a Chinese tribe who came to prominence in the 16th century; that the Ming to Qing transition was just a power transition taking place within "China", instead of a foreign force invading China and imposing their own customs and languages onto Chinese, the punishment of whose disobedience was death. But the actual location of the Great Wall(the borderline between China and the non-China) sitting just north of Beijing presented a problem for this Chinese narrative that China of the past was as same as the People's Republic, so the Chinese government decided to lengthen the wall into Manchuria to the horrors of non-Chinese scholars! Suddenly anti-China walls built by non-Chinese become the part of the Great Wall, as natural mountains now becoming the part of the wall.
This is the kind of history liars we are talking.
