Parents at a California elementary school may have been shocked to find out that a guest reader was a well-known p-orn star.

TMZ.com obtained photos of X-rated star Sasha Grey reading a book to a group of first- and third-grade students earlier this month.

"Spent the am with Read Across America Compton, reading to the sweetest 1st and 3rd grade students @ Emerson Elementary," she tweeted.

In a clear PR misstep, a rep for the school district denied that Grey had even read at the school.

"We have several celebrities who read to our students each year," a rep told TMZ. "The actress you indicated was not present."

According to its Facebook page, Read Across America is "designed to promote literacy and instill a lifelong love of reading" using "individuals from the fields of entertainment, athletics, business and politics."

In the past few years, Grey has been making a switch to mainstream acting. She played herself in a guest appearance on "Entourage." She also had a role in the movie "The Girlfriend Experience."

On Friday afternoon, Grey released a statement to TMZ.com that she would not stop volunteering with the children .

“I committed to this program with the understanding that peopple would have their own opinions aboutwhat I have done, who I am and what I represent.”

She added that she recognized people may not agree with her past but “it does not define who I am.”

I am proud to have participated in the "Read Across America" program at Emerson Elementary School in Compton, CA. I read “Dog Breath” by Dav Pilkey to the sweetest 1st and 3rd grade children. "Read Across America" is a program that was designed to promote literacy and instill a lifelong love of reading in elementary school students. Promoting education is an effort that is close to my heart. Illiteracy contributes to poverty; encouraging children to pick up a book is fundamental. I believe education is a universal right. I committed to this program with the understanding that people would have their own opinions about what I have done, who I am and what I represent. I am an actor. I am an artist. I am a daughter. I am a sister. I am a partner. I have a past that some people may not agree with, but it does not define who I am. I will not live in fear of it. To challenge non-profit education programs is an exercise in futility, counter-productive and anti-educational. I cannot thank my fans and “Read Across America” enough for supporting my decision. Your support and kind words continue to inspire me. I believe in the future of our children, and I will remain an active supporter and participant in education-focused initiatives

Ah, yes. Miss Grey. The pride of the Greek community in the Diaspora. Although some would like to disown her for her exploits

She was a former **** star not anymore ...

Anyways why do people out there make such a big deal of a former adult actress telling a story from a recognised book that can be bought from any good reputable book shop

Non issue. The kids don't know who is she, she simply read a book. She didn't exactly give a lecture on the proper DP formalities.

I bet some of the dads knew and would have liked to have been there to hear her read.

And the TMZ pic seems to imply that the kids are really into the story and she's doing a great job, so, who cares.
