Picture of Syrian rebels stamping on pictures of Putin and Medvedev. But what type of rifle is lying next to their feet? AK-10?

If I may add some interesting remarks...
I was a fan of Libyan photos and videos and I see certain differences.
First of all the Syrian rebels seem much more disciplined than in the case of Libyan ones-could it be that more of them are from military rather than civilians?
Another point-for now the Syrian regime seems to avoid using air force to destroy the rebels-could it be due to fear of no-fly zone, or do they lack capable and loyal pilots?
The level of defections seems to be big looking at the photos. In the video of defection of Colonel Qassim Saad-are the rebels in the back standing on APC's?
Another difference-the Libyans had various sort of weapons of different types and lots of technicals. I haven't seen this here. Most have similar arms, and there aren't many technicals at all(I have seen one or two).
Heavy shelling of Baba Amr district of Homs.
Indeed. Otherwise Assad would probably wiped them out already.
Given level of Syrian air defence I doubt that possible defection are the reason but rebels are using guerilla warfare tactics, if Assad would start using air planes to fight them he would have to start bombing heavily populated residential areas in major cities what would result in great civilian casulties. How long could Russia support him if on every news chanell there would be videos of hundreds of civilians beeing torn apart by bombs and buildins razed to the ground in middle of Homs, Hama and in Damascus countryside? How many soldiers and officers would it inspire to defect?
I see none.
Libya was Mad Max of this reality. They made RPGs from bicycles and UGVs from RC cars. As for FSA it comes from their logistical level (they have only weapons taken with them when they defected and bought from smugglers and officers) and technicals have low survivability in urban areas, just look at number of pro-Assad armor which was taken down in Homs alone by RPGs and IEDs.
