Well poor sunnis are undoubtedly the largest group in Syria, even if they dont form the absolute majority. Middle class is also a very relative thing.

Overall minority regions (shia, alwai, druze, christian) are quite calm. Two largest and most prosper Sunni towns Damascus and Haleb are also pretty calm. But most of the remaining sunni towns are in mess.

Well, not so long ago everyone thought that Latakia, because of strong presence of Alawites in the region, shall be calm as well and that turned out rather differently. And although Haleb or Aleppo are calm, Damascus is not such a case. Althogh protests are happening mostly in suburbs (and the situation is miles away from Homs, Hama or Daara), latest attack on air force HQ shows also growing violence.

Well, all you need is a RPG-7 with an ancient warhead from the 60's. More deserters = more weapons & ammo.

That, plus the standard combat load of 40 73mm rounds should be more than enough to set that rolling coffin ablaze...

Last time in 2010 I was in Syria for business and even taxi drivers was scared of Markaz Mukhabarat ( Syrian Intelligence ) so I dont think even now it is possible to run away from government side with RPG or such weapons.Free Syrian Army has a chance to attack with basic weapons and get more advanced weapons from government side but dont you think it will be much better if France or any EU country even US unofficially hands over some anti tank rockets to FSA?

I think it will be much easier way to get rid of Bashar Asad.

Why should France, other EU countries or even the US supply weapons to the FSA? What about Turkey and Russia for instance?
