Wouldn't it be ironic if theses were the very same ones that Syria supplied to Hezbollah come back to haunt them?

I am guessing it was supplied externally. I think an Afghan 80s solution is being done. Like stinger was supplied back then some higher tech weapons will be supplied to tip the balance.

LOL, are you trying to say that Russia is arming the rebels? Because Russia is only country which produces Metis-M.

True but there is stock in user countries that could sympathetic to the cause. I was being too general. In afghanistan there were other missiles beside stinger, like redeye, blowpipe.

I think some quality hardware will be available and not western made so to avoid being labeled as suppliers.

But as we found out in the Falklands - Blowpipe didn't bluddy work.

Not a good thing to say. We don't need a flame war in this thread

Quite few countries. The source of missiles is easy to identify throught serial numbers. It would piss off Russia + give Assad proofs that opposition is armed by west.

If you West wanted to arm opposition it would supply old missiles, which are cheap, perfectly effective against old Assad's armor and virtually impossible to track their source.

We know that Metis-M were supplied to Syria. So most probably what happened is that some stock was looted or defectors managed to take some.
