Default Iran News & Discussion Thread

This is a new attempt at a general Iran thread so that we do not have a hand full of new threads each day...

So, todays news of the day:

Iran state TV airs "confession" of detained CIA spy

TEHRAN (*******) - Iranian state television on Sunday aired what it described as the confession of an Iranian man detained for spying for the CIA.

State television broadcast a taped interview with Amir Mirza Hekmati, in which he said he had received training by the U.S. intelligence services. The channel said he had been sent to Iran to provide misinformation to Iranian intelligence.

Iran's Intelligence Ministry said Saturday it had captured a CIA spy of Iranian origin who had received training in the U.S. Army's intelligence units and spent time at U.S. military bases in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Tehran often flexes muscles at such events in attempt to display readiness against potential strikes.

Iran's navy will launch a 10-day war game in the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, state television quoted Navy Commander Habibulah Sayari as saying on Thursday.

UK government says Iran blocked its website

    By *******
    12/22/2011 16:18

LONDON - Britain, which closed its embassy in Tehran last month after it was ransacked by protesters, said on Thursday that Iranian authorities had blocked its website aimed at Iran.

The move creates further tension between the two countries that regularly clash over Iran's nuclear program.

Britain's Foreign Office said Iranian authorities had barred access to a Foreign Office website, "UK in Iran" http://ukiniran.fco.gov.uk/en/, that carries information on British government policies and statements, including criticism of Iran's human rights record.

It said the website had been added to thousands of other Internet sites censored by Iranian authorities.

    Care to bet on It.
I'm sure it's the last thing that either of them wants .

Both Iran and USA are natural ally . US need the bogyman (Iran)
to tame some Arab ally and sell some Junks to their army .
Iran need an enemy at the door to silence any opposition .

can you find any comradeship in the realm of politic more beautiful
    than this.

well you may not like it but Iran government need the foreign enemy
and American weapons Manufacturer need the boogeyman to sell the
watered down weapons that can be disabled by button from deep inside
USA if used against wrong country to the Arab countries .

if it was not so why the American are so shy on attacking Iran while
there is no such reservation for other countries .after all it's since
1992 that Iran is 2-3 year away from building the bomb.

well I didn't heard anything from this side of the world ,and
I don't think US army is so vain to attack some oil depot in
a remote village outside a city that is only a shell of it's past
Glory just for the fun of it
I will give US Army far more credit than that but honestly when
it come to medias it's years that I lost all my respect for 90%
of them . they have just become some propaganda tools that
look only for the hit ratio of their sites .

Media reports suggest the Obama administration outlined red lines for determining when to strike militarily against Iran.

WASHINGTON – Media reports on Wednesday suggested the Obama administration had developed red lines for determining when to strike militarily against Iran.

American news site The Daily Beast reported that in recent weeks, Washington had taken steps to reassure Israel “that the administration had its own ‘red lines’ that would trigger military action against Iran, and that there is no need for Jerusalem to act unilaterally.”
