Chavez muses on US Latin America cancer plot
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has questioned whether the US has developed a secret technology to give cancer to left-wing leaders in Latin America.
Treated for cancer this year, Mr Chavez was speaking a day after news that Argentina's president had the disease.
Fernando Lugo of Paraguay, Dilma Rousseff of Brazil and her predecessor Lula have also had cancer.
Mr Chavez said this was "very strange" but stressed that he was thinking aloud rather than making "rash accusations".
But he said the instances of cancer among Latin American leaders were "difficult to explain using the law of probabilities".
"Would it be strange if they had developed the technology to induce cancer and nobody knew about it?" Mr Chavez asked in a televised speech to soldiers at an army base.

I think I know why Chavez is thinking that, because maybe he remembered Castro
- A non-lethal plot which discussed the possibility of treating a box of Castro’s cigars with a chemical that would either cause temporary personality disorientation or make his beard fall out.
- A plot was developed to put thallium salt into Castro’s shoes. Thallium salt is commonly used by women as a hair removal. The plot hoped to damage Castro’s image by destroying his beard which was seen as a symbol of the revolution.
- A plot was organized to give Castro a skin-diving suit that had been dusted with a fungus that would cause tuberculosis. The CIA bought a diving suit which was to be used; however, James Donovan, the man who was supposed to give the suit to Castro, happened to had already given Castro a diving suit.
- A plot to place a very unique and beautiful seashell rigged with explosives into the area Castro was known to commonly go diving. The head of the CIA’s Cuban operations went as far as buying a couple books on Caribbean mollusks. The plan, however, was later called off when it was decided that the plan was too impractical.
-Pen-syringe. The plot hoped to use Rolando Cubela, a early friend of Castro, who had become disenchanted with the revolution and with Castro. Cubela had contacted the CIA and had planned to work with them to remove Castro. The CIA sent a poison pen-syringe that Cubela was to use on Castro. Nothing came of the plan after the pen was given to Cubela.
