I doubt it ever happened. This is a publicity stunt. Kyle has a book to sell. Nobody ever heared about this until Kyle started selling his book. If it happened in front of a full bar, five years ago, as Kyle said, we would have heared about it long time ago.

NSW is a fairly small community in a nation of 300+ million.
The number of folks there on the day would have been pretty thin.
Maybe some folks outside of the community could have been around, such as bar staff...family...friends...maybe other patrons if the venue wasn't locked down for the wake...etc.
But I can easily imagine "family business" being kept "family business" typically only discussed within the family.....even if it involves an infamous "B" celebrity....especially since it sounds like he came off 2nd best....if it went the otherway....maybe not so much.
Just speculation.....but I've seen/heard some "unconventional outcomes" that have been kept quiet and will most likely stay quiet.

Please excuse me. I'm not trying to be disrespectful. I just have doubts and this is exactly the problem. In such a small, elite community, this kind of things are kept "familly bussines". So why come out and brag about it, on all news chanels, five years after, during a book tour? It just doesn't make sense.
He didn't brag about it. During the interview a caller asked if it was true that Mr. Kyle punched Jesse. He answered but he was hesitant about it and if asked again probably wouldn't answer.
