After a hearing in Hockenheim on Sunday morning by stewards Derek Warwick, Tim Mayer and Paul Gutjahr, no further action will be taken against Red Bull following FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer’s report this morning regarding the legality of the team’s engine maps.
Bauer had told the stewards that he felt the engine torque maps of the RB8’s of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber breached Article 5.5.3 of the Technical Regulations as the engines are able to deliver more torque at a given engine speed in the mid rpm range and could thus artificially alter the aerodynamic characteristics of both cars in contravention of Technical Directive 036-11.
But after meeting with Red Bull and Renault representatives and examining ECU data, the stewards said that while they did not accept all the arguments of the team, they concluded that as the regulation is written, the map presented does not breach the text of Article 5.5.3.
