A bit hard to guess.
Any idea what kind of SAM system is involved ?
I would guess that might be the JV Israeli/Indian Barak-8 (Land-Based version aka LRSAM)
A bit hard to guess.
Barak-8 is an upper tiers SAM system, more powerful than Spyder in both effective range and sensor acquisition. Spyder is more tactical and also much cheaper. I think for the high value of the deal and considering the acquisition of the Green Pine radar, it could mean Azerbaijan is getting the high-end stuff. Also, we don't know what shore-to-sea anti-ship missile is involved, my bet is a recent version of Gabriel whether the IV or the V.
Well, I edited my post. When it comes to it, SPYDER are considered a product of Rafael and not IAI.
Possible indeed, a land-based version of Barak-8.

Yep and there two sort of missile available (AFAIK), a normal variant with a range of 60-70km and an extended range variant of >120km. Both featured the same active radar homing. The ground radar is the EL/M 2084 which is also the ground radar of the Iron Dome and David Sling and is able to perform both artillery (counter battery) and air defense task. Here is two pictures to illustrate my post :

http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomac...aijan-1.414916Israeli defense officials on Sunday confirmed $1.6 billion in deals to sell drones as well as anti-aircraft and missile defense systems to Azerbaijan, bringing sophisticated Israeli technology to the doorstep of archenemy Iran.
Just to let you know, you can go to Google translate, http://translate.google.co.il/# , post a link there and copy the result link, it equals the whole page of the link after translation (not perfect but..).. :

Any source? From what I gather, test involving the whole system started last year and the complete development is scheduled for this year. But you have a point the system is not operational yet. Although I'm not sure it should deter Azerbaijan from ordering Barak-8.The missile is on schedule to complete development and be integrated on board the first combat vessels by 2012.

Dont know why, but my gut says that the customer might be Indonesia
You are right. But I don't think it's exceptional in the defense business to order something still in development (F-35 orders from Japan & Israel). The reports on the deal with Azerbaijan specify mentioned an anti-aircraft missile and IAI doesn't have such thing operational in its inventory yet. The closest things related to SAM in IAI's catalog are Arrow-2 and Barak-1. That's why I was thinking more about the Barak-8.
