I guess Iran is trying to low down its usual anti-Israel rethoric. I suppose that it's a part of a broader deal on its nuclear program and other things.

My farsi friends have stated to me that this is the correct translation. The Iranian people know exactly what he means as well.

Yeah, and we all know that all those rockets Iran provides to Hizbollah don't kill and maim "average Jews". They'll score direct hits on Bibi and Barak's offices.

    LOL!

Nearly 6 million average Jews live in this "zionist regime''. Overwhelming majority of them support it.

So does Achmenijad share Ezz Al-Arab's scholarly opinion that the Anne Diary is a fake? They both shared the opinion that the Holocaust has been greatly exaggerated.

Its a mis-translation everyone. What he meant was that the Zionist government would implode, and not the jewish people! ( quote from professor)

'Khamenei told me that Israel must be burned to the ground'

Former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar tells crowd in Jerusalem that during meeting with Iran's supreme leader in 2000, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said, "War against the United States and Israel is inevitable."

Iran 'committed to Israel's annihilation,' says top general

When Ahmadinejad purportedly said Israel "should be wiped off the map" there were many who argued that the Iranian leader was mistranslated. No such argument can be made regarding the latest comments by the chief of staff of the Iranian armed forces.

According to the Iranian Fars news agency, while addressing a defense gathering in Tehran on Sunday, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Maj. Gen. Hassan Firouzabadi stressed that the Iranian nation remains committed to the "full annihilation of the Zionist regime of Israel to the end."
According to Fars, Firouzabadi "reiterated the Iranian nation and supreme leader's emphasis on the necessity of support for the oppressed Palestinian nation and its causes," and noted, "The Iranian nation is standing for its cause that is the full annihilation of Israel."

Here is the original link (so apologists won't be able to say that Pro-Israelis altered/mistranslated the message):

Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Hassan Firouzabadi said threats and pressures cannot deter Iran from its revolutionary causes and ideals, and stressed that the Iranian nation will remain committed to the full annihilation of the Zionist regime of Israel to the end.

He reiterated the Iranian nation and Supreme Leader's emphasis on the necessity of support for the oppressed Palestinian nation and its causes, and noted, "The Iranian nation is standing for its cause that is the full annihilation of Israel."
