Sounds like a physicist's way of saying, "uhhh. . . ." If matter and mass could be spontaneously created at the event then why not now? Run the clock all the way back and at what point do physical laws become reality and why? Where is the point which before there is no matter and after there is? If everything was pure energy what was the source of it?

Why does the Möbius band even exist?

To start with the question "Where did the material for the big bang to occur come from?" is making an assumption about (that) material in the first place.

Untill we understand what happened we'll never know for sure and theorising is our only option.
So my answer is: energy converted into matter. As the how, why and when of that proces...

    What created the energy dude?

I like the "Duck Egg" theory.

Matter can be created out of energy (that's how antimatter is created) but then it brings up the whole "why is everything matter instead of 50% matter 50% antimatter" question. Where did all the antimatter go?

Even if the universe were cyclical why is there something instead of nothing? Why is the friggin' sky blue?

But isn't there a huge loss of energy dissipated in the form of heat and radiation when you collide particles at near-luminal speeds?

It isn't, the human eye just perceives it that way.

Um, first law of thermodynamics? Energy is not a thing. It's not created.

A simple way of thinking of the big bang is that all matter has always existed as a compressed sub-atomic particle sized ball. Because this "ball" had the mass of everything, it compressed time to the point where time didn't exist. Suddenly, that ball started inflating, hence our Universe. Eventually, that Universe will begin to contract into a "ball" state.

Actually, I think we made god. For we don't know.
