Wait, you Germans invaded us, we want to get fee subs too! [/sarcasm]
I guess it still is not appropriate to make ends meet with money from a People that are largely only alive because they escaped our irrational hatred.
The German subsidies in this deal are related more to stimulating the German sub industry/German-Israeli strategic relations....Not the Holocaust. The original 3 Sub deal way back in the 90's was related to Saddam Hussein as well, not the Holocaust. Israel probably couldn't pay for full price, especially with defense cuts looming. German industry benefits from discounted deal over no deal. See what happened to Israel's 2 planned Frigates.
In any regard I'm glad the IDF has got a fleet of 6 advanced subs going, makes the navy not completely useless thanks to political BS. Imo they should restore the 2 remaining Gal's as well for 8, they'd still be fine for coastal defense duties and also good for training. Though of course that will never happen.
These 206 will never only be good for coastal defense. They can travel quite a distance. They are little comparable to ants, evil things only with 100% capability to hunt down things a lot of times their own size.
The bottom line is: Isrealis have shuzpe and Germans do not.
First one got wheeled out today.

Looks sexy! Thanks, Bleifuss.
Does somebody have some information's on the displacement of those improved Dolphins? thx in advance...
No biggie, we have too much money anyway. /irony
There's nothing wrong with giving discounts, but strange thing is, that we only give these deals to Israel and other nations have to pay the full price.
One thing that never gets mentioned around those deals is the amount of Israeli tech transferred to Germany, let me tell you, it's a lot, from manufacturing techs to UAVs and everything in between.

Germans set to deliver advanced sub to Israel
By BENJAMIN WEINTHAL, JERUSALEM POST CORRESPONDENT
The 68-meter dolphin is the largest German vessel built since WWII
(…)
The delivery of the Super Dolphin to Israel is filled with some irony, largely because Iran’s regime as of 2010 maintains a 4.5 percent stock control of ThyssenKrupp.
