Sadly no English source that I could find. Apperently the PM (Bibi) will discuss the matter on his coming visit to Cyprus. Also it says that the Ehud Barak (Minister of Defense) discussed this on his visit a few weeks ago. The source according to the article is from the "Shinhwa" (I think I misspelled it) Chinese news agency.

I posted the story yesterday in the old thread dedicated to the defense agreement between Cyprus and Israel.
Cyprus and Israel are coming closer since Turkey has basically discarded its former bonds with Jerusalem. It is of course no accident that they are talking now since the huge off-shore deposit is more or less equally split between both countries, with Turkey being the frustrated third in this story since Erdogan threatend Cyprus not to tab that resources without considering Turkey which btw has no legal claim there.
does it have anything to do with Turkey? since turkey is in boarder with Cyprus ?
I think it was Turkish Cyprus that Erdogon was considering.
Guess I need to work on my Googling skills
IMO, I think the story came up because of a possible conflict with Iran. If we go to war with Iran, we'll be shelled daily from Lebanon and from (probably) Gaza, not to mention the possibility of Syria going hay-wire. Sadly we have no startigic depth like almost every other country, thus all of bases are exposed for the taking. Stationing military aircraft in Cyprus would give the AF a safe place to operate from if we go for the military option.
Actually, we're building an artifical islandit will house an airport that is currently in the middle of Tel-Aviv. IIRC it should be done by 2020.
I was actually interested in the subject of expanding Israel's land mass using a series of artificial islands, but technically speaking it'd be way to expensive to construct a properly sized island that won't disappear in 10 years time. Dubai did it and they still didn't manage to solve the problem of the islands sinking.
Underground zionist bases on the other hand, that has some potential!
Israel and Cyprus upgrade ties
Israel's navy and air force will be allowed to use Cypriot waters and airspace.
16 February 12 14:20, Amiram Barkat and Inbal Omer
Israel and Cyprus signed an agreement today that will allow IDF planes and ships to use Cypriot airspace and territorial waters.Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Cypriot President Demetris Christofias signed what is called a search and rescue agreement in Nicosia today. Netanyahu was making the first ever visit of an Israeli prime minister to neighboring Cyprus.
(…)
In response to a question by a Cypriot correspondent about media reports that Israel wants to use Cypriot military bases, Netanyahu said, "Israel is interested in peaceful cooperation."
