You do realise it's nothing of the sort, don't you? There is only one organisation that has ever utilised the double s rune and that is the nazi SS. Simply stating that because "Scout Sniper" also has the same initials, that magically transforms the nazi symbol is so wholeheartedly moronic it should class you immediately as an oxygen thief.
Unfortunately there have been other examples of this type of idiocy, I saw pics of US Humvees in Iraq with the tactical symbol of the SS-Liebstandarte Adolf Hitler Division marked on them.

Default Marine scout snipers used Nazi SS logo

    The Marines Statement ...

“We believe that these young men likely did not understand the significance of this symbol, and we call on the Marine Corps to increase education on American history,” he said. “This issue goes beyond one of racism or anti-Semitism. Our fellow Americans fought and died to stop the Nazis, and it is shameful for any member of the military to display the symbols of Nazi Germany.”
The Corps has addressed the use of the SS logo before, however. A PowerPoint presentation posted on a Marine Corps website said it should not be used in any tattoos. The logo was used by German special police during World War II and is still used by neo-Nazis and graffiti to characterize anti-Semitism, white supremacy and facism, according to the presentation.

Really pretty stupid. I am not sure all of them knew the connotation associated with SS written as runes, but I am sure some of them did.

Warrior culture is one thing, however if they are too stupid to understand the implications of going public with some of their activities, they really ought to have somebody straighten them out.

As neat/iconic as some of the Third Reich's symbolism is, there should have been at least one person in that unit who appreciates military history or at least played some of the early Call of Duty games.

I've seen patches and certificates going back to just after the Vietnam war using those runes incorporated into logos etc. It's certainly nothing new. It certainly is distasteful though.

You just can't take something that "iconic" like that and rebrand it as yours because your initials happen to be "SS", and expect everyone to suddenly go "oh yeah, OK, now it's cool"

Is it possible that he nazi war ensign in "Platoon" had a real historic background? Or did Stone invent that completely?

I can't remember what book the pics were in. Either one by Peter Senich, or one of the Chandlers that wrote about Gunny Hathcock....

My hog t-shirts have that symbol. Come do an article on me.
I have a Satans Slaves MC t-shirt that looks a lot like that from a distance.
In the photo looks like something written across the middle of the runes - probably "Scout Snipers"

Well, what do you expect of people who have no sense of history?

I was crew at an airshow in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada a few years back, and there were some re-enactors. One lot were in the uniform of the 12th SS Hitlerjugend. I pointed out to them that that particular unit had murdered a bunch of Canadian POWs in Normandy and it wasn't in particularly good taste to be standing around in Canada near the anniversary of the Normandy landings in that garb.

    Oh well.

If they were smarter, they could have just had one rune and then claimed it was for the rune Sigel, meaning Life
