    That was what the navy called their 46's. I was a Marine and never heard ours called that.
    We called Harriers "Dead Bugs", because the early ones would flip over and crash while hovering, occasionally.
    (This was in the 80's, for what it's worth.)

    The Su-22 was "Susi" in the East German Air Force, while the An-2 was "Anna", for equally obvious reasons.

    MiG-29: Nagyvas (big iron), or Kétfarkú (twintail)
    L-39 is known as Alba
    Mi-24 as Mihu (Mi + the shortened ****aunciation of number 24)
    Mi-8 as Minyó (Mi + the shortened ****aunciation of number 8).
    Zlin Z-43 as Ordító Egér (screaming mouse)
    An-26 (and generally every Antonovs e.g. An-2) as Ancsa (nick for Annamerie)

    Turkey

    UH-1 / AB-204 / AB-205: "Pat Pat", because of the sound of the engine.

    S-70: "Karakus", meaning "Dark Bird" because of the dark blue / black overall color of the helicopter.
