The considerations may be multiple, but it is foremost a question of deterrent.
Since 2006, Hezbollah keeps the Northern border quiet because it is deterred from operating from there. But it initiated some failed attempts to attack Israel abroad in the last weeks (which all failed up to yesterday). Gantz' statement made clear wherever Hezbollah's attack would occur it will be hit in Lebanon.
Quite an incompetent showing thus far for Iran. If this is the first chapter of the conflict to come it does not bode well for their capabilities.
Iranians thus far are proving to be clumsy and shoddy. Let's hope this is the reality behind all their military efforts.

Israel warned Indian authorities of a possible attack in New Delhi,various Indian media outlets reported Tuesday.
A report in the Hindustan Time said that Israeli intelligence warned India of an imminent threat to Israeli establishments and individuals, giving them a list of about 50 individuals – all Iranian nationals – believed to be involved in such a plot.
"A list of about 50 Iranians was submitted by a high-level Israeli delegation to the Union home ministry over two weeks ago… Israel requested that the individuals named on the list be kept under surveillance," a New Delhi security source told the newspaper.
