Frankly i couldnt care less what his second wife did or does, the most important thing is that the presidant should be some sort of moral watchkeeper and if wulff is the best germany has to offer for this role then these are sad days for germany.
While I hate Gauck for his uber moralism, he himself is a real man with stature, not that kind of midget like Wulff.
I don't expect Wulff to resign. He is too much in love with his office and with the 200k per year he earns. You can expect him to set new lows and a media hurricane.
Agreed.
Of course, and that's the problem. This idiotic bullcrap will accompany our mighty fine politics for weeks if not months to come. I assume the journalists will dig deeper and deeper until they stumble on new interesting stuff Wulff doesn't want to explain.I don't expect Wulff to resign. He is too much in love with his office and with the 200k per year he earns. You can expect him to set new lows and a media hurricane.
If he would resign, who could be his replacement? Gauck is still a choice?
Lammert?
He would be a good choice for a CDU candidate, I like him.
But he's too independent for Merkel
Actually a better candidate than Gauck.
Gauck is a man of impeccable personal morals, but he seems to be stuck in an eternal 1989.
His remarks about internet and other modern issues are quite jurassic.
Parliamentary President Lammert is anything but not Merkel's puppet. He's actually one the most non-partizan heads of the chamber ever.
Former Stasi-Investigator Joachim Gauck would be a good option. The CDU should have supported his bid for presidency to begin with. Would've pulled a tooth or two. But no, Merkel had to insist on her candidate.
The absolute depths of patheticness were plumbed with his immortal line of "human rights also apply to the Bundespräsident". Buuhu-fvcking-hu. HTFU, won't you, Christian?! Friend of mine working at Sparkasse has to literally clear every EUR 4,99 bottle of bubbly his clients give him with his compliance department, just for comparison.
Quick reminder: Back in 2006, when Wulff was premier in Lower Saxony, his direct subordinate, minister of the interior Uwe Schünemann (who still holds that post, btw) came up with the brilliant idea of up to two years of jail time for players of violent video games. No, the tvrd wasn't drunk, he was drafting a law in tandem with his Bavarian then-colleague Beckstein. How's that for human rights?
Another one: In 2000, when Rau was president, Wulff called on Rau to resign because of the WestLB - Finanzaffäre, in order to avert damage the office... Bundesunschuldslamm should take his own advice ASAP.
After the von Arnim opinion, not starting to investigate would have smelled fishy.
It means public employees are not allowed to accept gifts.
Prosecutors, and eventually courts, will have to decide whether Mr. Wulff actually accepted unlawful gifts.
Guess what, Wulff is going to give an official statement at 11:00 (in half an hour), Merkel is scheduled to give a statement at 11:30. She even postponed a trip to Italy to do so... Georg Schramm / Lt. Col. Sanftleben for president!!!![]()
As an interim, we now have the first bavarian head of state since 1745.
Good help all of us.
