Amsterdam: Head of UK's Islamic Sharia Council says stoning is necessary

British Islamic Scholar Sheikh Haitham al-Haddad said in Amsterdam that the stoning of women "is sometimes necessary." Also, he who renounces Islam would deserve death penalty in a Muslim country. Al-Haddad made these statements Friday night in the De Balie debate center in Amsterdam.

Al-Haddad further declared that the islamic punishment for adultery is stoning. For both men and women. And: "If I were to commit adultery, I would request to be stoned". The sharia scolar even said to receive a lot of requests by western women, who committed adultery, to go to a islamic country in order to be stoned.

Een van de andere deelnemers aan het debat - GroenLinks-Kamerlid Tofik Dibi - vroeg of dit soort zaken het gezicht van de Islam zijn. Al-Haddad antwoordde dat de andere aanwezigen hier vooral over wilden praten. Zelf had hij verwacht het ook over bijvoorbeeld islamitische financiën te kunnen hebben.

One of the other participants, Green-Left parliamentarian Tofik Dibi, asked if this was the face of islam. Al-Haddad answered that this seemed to be what those present wanted to talk about most. He himself expected to be able to discuss islamic finance among other things.

Several parties in parliament wanted to stop Al-Haddad from entering the country but this was not legally possible.

He-he, there is one thing all these journaloosers miss. It's pretty much obvious what the ideas this dude has, and what he stands for. What is indeed interesting is the list of mosques he's visited in the Netherlands. To put things in useful perspective.
