My point was not intended at questioning russian capabilities but rather a comparison between US space program vs rest.

The high failure rate shows that russia still has to master a large chunk of technology related to mars mission. cost effective frugal engineering can work in earth but not in space.If you can afford the mars program,only then proceed with it otherwise don't.The mission would require you to invest a large % of your GDP on it

Going to mars is not like going to LEO.Firstly it would cost no less than a 1 trillion $ ,that means only USA,CHINA,EU,RUSSIA and INDIA can afford it in 2030.

Also the technology for the mission is extremely complex and still under development.I propose a joint mission to mars by all the 5 space powers.

That would be the optimal solution, but what are the chances of it happening?

Another idea, why not start a UN funded space program, bringing the resorces of 193 countries together for the benefit of the entire human race!
