A Saul Alinsky-tied group has been awarded a $56 million federal loan to start up a nonprofit company -- one of several organizations across the country this week tapped to launch a new network of insurers under the sponsorship of the federal health care overhaul.
The Wisconsin group, Common Ground Healthcare Cooperative, was awarded the funding on Tuesday. According to the Department of Health and Human Services, the group is expected to provide coverage statewide within five years after starting on a smaller scale in early 2014.

But Americans for Limited Government President Bill Wilson questioned the group's credentials -- given its affiliation and lack of experience in the insurance field. "The indisputable fact is that Common Ground was an outgrowth of the Alinsky operation in Chicago," Wilson said. "We're not giving money to a group with experience in health care issues or in setting up exchanges. ... We're handing the money to people who have been trained by arguably the single most expert individual on community organizing in the last 100 years."
Common Ground, a Milwaukee group that dates back to 2004, is an affiliate of the Alinsky-founded Industrial Areas Foundation.
Alinsky, who died in 1972, is regarded as the godfather of community organizing but has also emerged as a bogeyman of the right. Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has weaved Alinsky's name into his campaign message, repeatedly hammering President Obama as an "Alinsky radical." Like Alinsky, Obama traces his political and activist beginnings to the Chicago world of community organizing.

I'm praying for Iran to close the Strait of Hormuz, maybe even sink a tanker or two...yes no less than $10.00 a gallon for gas for me will do... and God make it last until bloody November please! Why? Because it might be the only thing that will help this country pull it's collective head out of it's ass.

Alinsky died in 1972. Kind of a reach to invoke his name everytime someone gets a hard on for community organization. Communities probably need more organization.

[*******"#000000"]Dick Armey gives his book to Tea Party leaders. Oh wait, that's an organized community....

Most Americans didn't know who was Saul Alinsky until Gingrich resurrected him during his campaign.
Now Alinsky's writings are enjoying a second life thanks the Newt.

You're right...but they are dumb enough to vote with their wallets, because they sure don't vote with their brains.

You must have come out of that Russian Lake recently. Alinsky has been heard about for years in the USA. Next you'll be trying to piss down our necks with Who's George Soros?

sadly 56 million to political cronies of the WH is just chump change.

The US used 1.6 BILLION dollars to hand out free cell phone (and paid service) to low income folks.

It just wouldn't be fair if they couldn't blindly walk in front of you......while texting.

Ordie? How long have I been ribbing you about that playbook of yours? I think I know more about Alinsky than I do Newt!

It's not the amount of money that's the worrying part, it's the purpose.

We all know the purpose is suspect a best.

But price is relative. (billions given away, never to return. this is a loan which they probably will default on and we will never see. But it's billions vs millions)

(I do understand Alinsky-ites, and what a nebulous proposition 'Healthcare Cooperative' is.)

x2 I may be a European living in Canada but I try to keep up with US news through my periodicals and on top of that I'm a fervent socialist. I had no ****ing clue who he was, neither did my fellow left-leaning american friends.

CJ beat me to it. It's almost like saying Santorum and Romney have ties to Lincoln.

Heck, you must have been sleeping while Obama was getting elected, "Rules for Radicals" was being thrown around every day. Alinsky and his doctrine go back a long way in American politics.
