As a white male when I applied for college...apparently I was not attractive to the Flagship UC schools Berkeley and Los Angeles...but all these women were...I mean this one asian girl left the things that didn't include race and grades blank and got into UCLA...what happened to the whole person concept.

I'm from SoCal but I love the Mid-State Area around Paso Robles.

Had to be done. I've only spent a little time in SoCal, but I really dug the Huntington and Newport Beach areas, and Rancho Palos Verdes.

I guess I wasn't clear. The part that left blank was the extra curriculars and essay. I'm not saying she wasn't qualified academically...because she was, however I'm saying that they were not looking for the whole person since she got in. Do I think race and gender had something to do with it? Hell yes, am I pissed off that I didn't get in...no because I got into my first choice. There was only one guy that got into UCLA from my class when there were like five girls...and a lot of the guys made them look bad.

I know a lot of people male, and female, white and others, who got into UCB and UCLA. Perhaps your grades just weren't up to par? Mine weren't, no biggie. Getting involved in a startup in high school destroyed my GPA, no regrets though.

There is a gender imbalance in education these days, it's a serious issue. If anything being a guy sort of helps these days, as less and less of us go to college every year. Schools are starting to do AA type stuff for men.

@ Laconian...the name says I'm hispanic...am I, yes. I'm a half breed...but I can look in the damn mirror and see what shade of pigment I am.

@ Eskachig...mine were pretty solid, they were lower than that chicks. Like I said when I applied for college...that was six years ago. Honestly idk why I'm wining...I have the diploma of my first choice.

Still in the neighborhood! I went to HHS. The Beach Boys are one of our few claims to fame. Shocking considering the demographics of that high school today. My mother attended RUHS mid 60's - small world! Do you ever go back and visit Redondo? I currently live in Hermosa Beach.
