The Combined Arms Demonstration Day was held by 4 Rifles and the 2nd Battalion, The Duke of Lancasters Regiment at Sidbury Hill, Tidworth on the 09th February 2012. The demonstration was to enhance understanding of combined arms contribution to the Light Infantry and Mechanised Infantry in the deliberate defence. Units within the Brigade were split down into groups to conduct a round robin on all of the display stands. The display stands consisted of a model exercise, equipment being displayed and shown by the soldiers and a final attack on the area.

The Chief of Army, Lieutenant General David Morrison announced the raising of the newest unit in the Australian Army, the Special Operations Engineer Regiment (SOER). The announcement coincided with a ceremony held at Holsworthy Barracks in Sydney.

The Incident Response Regiment (IRR) was taken off the Army’s Order of Battle and replaced by the newly named SOER. The new unit reflects the distinct roles and capabilities of the SOER, which differ from those of conventional Engineer units, whilst still retaining ties to the Corps of Royal Australian Engineers.

The SOER provided two separate practical capability demonstrations at Holsworthy, a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear or Explosive (CBRNE) neutralisation task and an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) clearance.

The Special Operations Commander Australia, Major General Gus Gilmore also took the opportunity to meet the soldiers of the SOER to personally thank them for their work in supporting operations both domestically and overseas, and paid tribute to their fallen comrades.

Members of the Submarine Parachute Assistance Group (SPAG) from all three Services have been putting their parachuting skills to the test in Gibraltar this week.

The Group's main task is to deploy a team of people with escape and rescue knowledge to the scene of a submarine in distress - and to do so as quickly as possible.

Pantera is the finally training between U.S. and Polish forces leading up to the Bagram XI exercise. Bagram is a biannual exercise that test and certify that the Polish Task Force White Eagle members are ready for their mission in Afghanistan. There are more than 20 U.S. military and civilian’s participants along with over 800 Polish participants, support staff and contractors supporting the training that is running 21-25 Feb 2012

F-35B Test Flight With External Weapons

NAVAL AIR SYSTEMS COMMAND, PATUXENT RIVER, Md., Feb. 23, 2012 - Over an Atlantic test range, Lockheed Martin test pilot Dan Levin flies F-35B test aircraft BF-2 with external weapons pylons for the first time yesterday. The test measured flying qualities with external pylons, inert AIM-9X Sidewinder air-to-air missiles and centerline 25 mm gun pod. Significant weapons testing for the F-35B and F-35C varaints is scheduled for 2012, including fit checks, captive carriage, pit drop and aerial drop tests. (Lockheed Martin photo by Michael D. The first F-35B test flight with external weapons was carried out on 22 February 2012 at the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division test facility at NAS Patuxent River Maryland. The test mission, flown by Lockheed Martin test pilot Dan Levin, measured flying qualities with external pylons, inert AIM-9X Sidewinder air-to-air missiles, and the removable centerline 25mm gun pod. The four-barrel GAU-22/A Gatlin-type gun, built by General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products, is a derivative of the currently fielded GAU-12/U Equalizer. The missionized gun system designed for the F-35B and F-35C includes the F-35A-common GAU-22/A gun, a gun system control unit, and drive assembly.
