The Geography of Government Benefits
There is more to this story than just simple numbers, mainly because of the changing demographics of the US. The percentage of retirees that rely on medicare is growing at the rate of 300,000 people a month.....
The share of Americans’ income that comes from government benefit programs, like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, more than doubled over the last four decades, rising from 8 percent in 1969 to 18 percent in 2009.
