Default Series of lights reported hovering over U.S. Marine base in Afghanistan

"We were all in our office on Camp Leatherneck when we were told to come outside and see these really cool lights in the sky," the witness stated.

There were many witnesses to the event.

"I know that all of my friends on Facebook that were with us saw the same thing. They were up there long enough that people were leaving."

The lights were hovering in place, but they disappeared and reappeared again.

Who knows but with all the stuff flying around over their it is most likely the latter, however the pix were interesting and I would have thought the Marines could tell the difference unless it's secret stuff.

A friend of mine told menthe other day to keep my eyes out for aurora lights that would occur during the night. So ething to do with the moon and the movement of the earth. Maybe that's what they saw?

Lights like these seem to be really common. I kinda wonder if they might be some sort of natural thing ?

These are observation balloons keeping watch on the bases.

Aerostats have been used since 2004 at forward operating bases in Afghanistan and Iraq. Most have crews of five working in 12-hour shifts. Their ability to have a continuous view of a vast area has made them extremely useful in eastern Afghanistan along the Pakistan border, officials said.

Witnesses said they hovered in place. And I think a group of Marines would know illumes when they saw them. That being said I don't have a better answer.
