So this is suppose to be the new ATD-X that the Japanese are suppose to be working on?

BTW, love how they took the USS Midway and photoshopped it into some future Japanese carrier. Yeah.

Whatup with the F-3E? Shouldn't it have at least a vertical tail rotor to manoveur better?

If Japan thinks the F-35 is unaffordable, then someone obviously hasn't put too much thought into these...

Actually, the tailless design is the considered the best in maneuverability along with stealth characteristics than the vertical tail design. The McDonnell Douglas JSF project also had a tailless design along with the propose F-15 MANX which was also propose to RoKAF during the late-90's along with the X-36 prototype. Lockheed Martin was also proposing bomber variant of the F-22 which was known as the FB-22 which also included a tailless design and later proposed the X-44 tailless design which was cancelled in 2004

The F-35 was selected for the Japanese FX program for the F-4 replacement, while the F-3 is focused for the F-15 replacement. If the F-35 program costs goes up and more delays, the F-3 could be reconsider as a F-4 replacement as well.

^^ then why are half the illustrations with vertical stabilizers ? are they supposed to be removable ?

Did you look at the entire original post? The stabilizers are not on the picture of their "6th Gen" plane.

Yes I have. If I am getting it right, its F-3 A/B with vertical stabs and F-3E without them ?

because the Chinese have a Meteor class AAM in development

and that Chinese CGI, surprisingly good

the Japanese CGI would have looked better it it wasn't a magazine scan, and yes i like the 'look ma no stabs' 6th gen F-3

Nevermind, I seen the vertical slab on the F-3 picture, while the other ones don't have it. So, it can be a error or something.
