Oh goodie. An intense campaign of long-term nation-building in a part of Africa with absolutely no strategic importance motivated by outraged 20-somethings on facebook after watching a 30 minute propaganda video.
I don't think it is possible to come up with a foreign policy idea worse than this.
thats the dilema isnt it, whether it is morally acceptable to kill people who deserve a second chance. My point of view - this is a 20 yr problem and softly softly isnt working. it needs to end, and to that extent I say Yes, even though they are there under duress. I can only speculate on the results but I would imagine a well orchestrated Air mobile assault and pursuit with multiple ambushes and assault teams would spread Konys "Soldiers" to the wind. I doubt their devotion to the cause will survive the first few assaults, and I would hope the children would break quickly and due to the pace of the pursuit they would fall behind and be given the chance to surrender or run for the hills. The problem will not go away until his core support has been crushed, and to do that you take a sledgehammer to his forces and shatter them. He will be easier to track when he is hassled as he will make more mistakes. Alot of children would die, alot of basically innocent lives would be lost. But what do you do? Continue to allow mayhem to be visited on more innocent children and their families, or swallow the bitter pill and finish this.
It's a shit sammich either way you look at it, I however would be against asking Westerners to do such a thing, except maybe by air where pilots don't have to see the results of their handywork - Should some Kony base camp be found where his presence was comfirmed.
I think the president has taken the proper course of action in sending in the US Army 10th Special Forces Group. Let them train up Ugandans to hunt and kill this prick.
The problem with the indigenous forces is they already are hunting him, they have been in the field on his tail for years, they get sniffs of him all the time, warm camp fires and bed spaces, but they very rarely contact the enemy. He has good intelligence and the plodding Battalion on his tail cant do a thing without him knowing. This is why I would favour an air assault. Light Infantry forces carrying battle kit only would be able to harrass his units repetitively and break their will. I like that the 10th SFG is training the Ugandans. I would feel alot happier if they were mentoring as well and given the kind of mobility and overwatch they need for this job. Me will be lost, that would be certain, but children would be saved.... Put simply, humans are trainable, but when you train them well and put them out in the field, they will still have doubts and fears. If the mentors are there to encourage the troops to use the skills as taught and push hard, not falter when it gets tough, the troops will be more confident in their abilities for the future. Kony rarely stays in one place long enough for the Ugandan Air Force to **** up his day, believe me they are waiting for the day but he is not stupid, mad as a cut snake but not stupid.

Aww hell. You shoulda heard it when he criticized Clinton for lobbing tomahawks at Bin Laden back in 1998.
Rush's show goes something like this: everything democrats do = bad everything the GOP does = good
and he will pick up any convenient stone to throw at the "liberals".
He's still not the worst right-wing talker. If you ever want to get angry listen to Micheal Savage. I'm a right-leaning guy and he pisses the hell outta me.
