    Default G&G L85A2 Review

    G&G L85A2 Review

If you answer yes to one or more questions, then this is the gun for you. The G&G L85A2, as you can read, this is a replica of the SA80 L85A2, current rifle of the British Armed Forces. Want to know more?

The SA80 (Small Arms for the 1980s) is a British family of 5.56mm small arms. It is a selective fire, gas-operated assault rifle. SA80 prototypes were trialled in 1976 and production was completed in 1994.
The L85 rifle variant of the SA80 family has been the standard issue service rifle of the British Armed Forces since 1987, replacing the L1A1 variant of the FN FAL. The improved L85A2 remains in service today. The remainder of the family comprises the L86 Light Support Weapon, the short-barrelled L22 carbine and the L98 Cadet rifle.
The SA80 was the last in a long line of British weapons (including the Lee-Enfield family) to come from the national arms development and production facility at Enfield Lock. Its bullpup configuration stems from a late-1940s programme at Royal Small Arms Factory Enfield to design a new service rifle which was known as the EM-2, which though similar in outline, was an entirely different weapon, being a highly advanced bullpup configuration rifle, which despite good performance was never adopted by the British Army.

Now when that is done, we might move on.

Out of the box, this is a really great gun. Once you removed the blowback. Yes, this gun comes with a blowback that makes the charging handle move back and forth like when you fire a real one. Yes, it may look cool but it only hurts the gun. The lifetime of your piston will decrease noticeably. So my advice is to remove it. Once removed, your piston will hold longer and you will get a higher rate of fire.

So what makes this such a great gun? There are many things. One thing is the fact that it is a bullpup. Internet says this about bullpup rifles

"Bullpups are firearm configurations in which the action is located behind the trigger group and alongside the shooter's face, so there is no wasted space for the buttstock as in conventional designs. This permits a shorter firearm length for the same barrel length for improved maneuverability, and reduces weight"

And that is exactly what it does. The G&G L85A2 got a inner barrel length of 510 mm. Almost twice the length of a inner barrel of a M4 rifle. Without making the gun very long. The G&G L85A2 is only 78,5 centimetres long.Just a couple of centimetres longer than a M4, but still twice the barrel. It will give you alot of accuracy.

The G&G L85A2 is a very nice gun to change parts and such. Why? It got a split gearbox. Which means that the gearbox is cut in half. The upper part contains the spring, piston and such parts. And the lower contain the gears, motor and such. This makes it alot easier when changing the spring. No need to pick it all apart. Like you have to do with a V2 gearbox (Always a pain in the arse if you ask me)

The con is that the gears is uniqe, they have to extra teeths. So does the piston. All M14/PSG-1 parts will work in this gun. Luckily, G&G sell spare parts. So no need to browse the entire web for each little part.

A thing to notice is that this gun use a standard M4 hop-up system and it takes most brands of stanag airsoft magazines.

Wrong cocking handle on the full-length rifle for some reason, and the carbine appears based on one of the prototypes, not the L22A2 that is the true A2 carbine.

that is the cocking handle off the L85 first version.

as mentioned above that isnt the correct version of the carbine either.

both versions pictured above even have the old style American mags. the HK mags are much more sturdier (and heavier!!). there is now a poly mag as well.

see this link for report and picture of the carbine: http://webarchive.nationalarchives.g...a2_carbine.htm

The cocking handles on the real weapon are interchangeable, and as the carbine has the correct one presumably the same is true of the airsoft, so that at least is easily fixed.

The Colt-style mags are not a surprise, since this is an airsoft standard.

The 1985 dated serial number is realistic in any case, since no SA80s have been made since 1994, and all A2s are conversions.

For a current type A2 you would need an ACOG replica with riser mount, vortex flash-hider, and the Daniel Defense rail system,

Minor point, but the handguard on the rifle is the A1 type. There is an A2 type plastic guard with larger vents and different hinges, marked L85A2. A1 guards are still in service in the domestic UK on A2 weapons, but on these the A1 markings have been obliterated.

well by the look on the bolt carrier, the way the cocking handle attatches is completely different.

also the a2 has "HK" on a plate to the rear of the top of the cheek piece.

not all current A2 have a "vortex" flash suppressor or an ACOG. the ones i see have SUSAT and regular flash suppressors.

if you want to be reaaaalllly current you need a ELCAN spectre LDS with a red dot cqb/ebs (ala FIST) as used on weapons at IBS and the early roll out across the rest of the forces. and you forgot the front down grip with the button release bipod. (a big piece of crap!) i have a knights armament down grip for mine (lighter, smaller, easier to grip).

interesting point, the plastic foreguards are a sort after pice of kit. much lighter than the picannity rails as for putting the pistol grip on, you can just use the rear grip from an LSW and attach that. (seen that in 1991!)

another interesting point, the picannity rails for an SA80 are the most overpriced thing i have ever seen. you could almost buy a whole demarco for the price of that .

I wasn't suggesting using a real A2 cocking handle - just that cocking handles are probably interchangeable between the two *replicas* just as they are between the two real guns.

also the a2 has "HK" on a plate to the rear of the top of the cheek piece.
Yes, and although that part of the replica isn't pictured, I doubt they've replicated it as there'd be trademark issue. Let's not get into the lack of visible gas parts of either A1 or A2 type!

not all current A2 have a "vortex" flash suppressor or an ACOG. the ones i see have SUSAT and regular flash suppressors.
I'm thinking of Herrick issue weapons, though these features are now trickling down to the domestic UK too.

The ELCAN isn't that common as yet. The Gripod I was ignoring as it's an attachment for the DD rail system that I'd already pointed out wasn't modelled on this replica. You're right about it though - far too big for purpose.

I've heard the same thing - makes sense as the only thing attached beyond the grip is an entry light - and those were being attached direct to the plastic handguard before the rail system came in.

another interesting point, the picannity rails for an SA80 are the most overpriced thing i have ever seen. you could almost buy a whole demarco for the price of that .
That's the trouble with a legacy platform you can no longer organically support. It's a captive market for contractors to exploit.

Here is the picture of the Airsoft Rifle G&G L85A2 that appears in the Review on the link that I provided in the first post

It seems that the owner tear down the cocking handle. in this version we can clear see the the RIS system with the fore grip. I am not an expert like you guys but as I told greendzflash, I got a SUSAT sight replica and it turn very heavy my L85A2 AEG rifle. here is a site where I found some accesories such like the RIS and the raiser sight

    Madbull Daniel Defense SA80 / L85 RIS
    http://www.scopeandlaser.com/?sp=&p=...&more=&lang=en
    Retail Price: USD125.00

    ACM Aluminium L85 RIS Rail

    http://www.scopeandlaser.com/?sp=&p=...&more=&lang=en
    Retail Price: USD100.00

Hornbill Aluminium L85 / SA80 Scope Raiser Mount

    http://www.scopeandlaser.com/?sp=&p=...&more=&lang=en
    Retail Price: USD35.00

I also found an Elcan sight that greendzflash recomended to me, this Web site is one of my favorites places for shopping in airsoft

    www.ebairsoft.com

    Elcan Sight / G OP DR 1X 4X Magnifier Scope ( BK )
    http://www.ebairsoft.com/magnifier-scope-p-5055.html
    Price: $129.99

I honestly prefer the ACOG sights so I found this one on ebairsoft
    ACOG Sight/4X32 TA01NSN Scope
    http://www.ebairsoft.com/4x32-ta01nsn-scope-p-1099.html
    Price: $79.00

A question regarding the RIS System for the L85, do u think that those RIS Systems could give more weight to the AEG rifle???
So with the Advice of greendzflash I could go with the scope raiser mount and the ACOG 4X optic sight configuration???

the SUSAT replica sight that I got its awesome, it comes with a Crosshair sight Reticle, not with the original SUSAT one, but for airsoft its just perfect.

By the way in the review its said that the
    Cons:
    - semi-fire may stop function and - the Magazine release pin may come lose. That is so true

and the Pros: - Long inner barrel - Stable and solid - LiPo ready - Not to heavy, not to light, Also true, but with the SUSAT sight it turn the AEG rifle very heavy. Really I dont care about the weight too much.

    The real one weights empty L85: 4.13 kg / 9.1 lbs ( Source http://guns.wikia.com/wiki/SA80 )

    hi mate.

    airsoft...

choice of sight is yours....if you can i would try before you buy...ALWAYS!!!

as for ris...do you need it?

you can attach a downgrip to a foregrip easy enough. its also lighter and more individual

im sure you can get back up if anyone says "they dont do it like that!!" (ahem, im one of "them"!)

make your own choice, what ever makes you fight easy and good, thats what you want/need

For Op Herrick, yes it will. However the LDS (Elcan Spectre varient) is coming in to replace the SUSAT.
