Default ***, lies and media: New wave of activists challenge notions of beauty

(CNN) -- Here's the fantasy: A half-***** women lies across a couch, lips pouty and cleavage prominent as her sultry gaze implores you to buy this bottle of perfume.

The reality: Women make up 51% of the United States yet only 17% of seats in the House of Representatives. They're 3% of Fortune 500 CEOs and 7% of directors in the top 250 grossing films.

What's the connection? We live in a sexualized society where the gap between fantasy and reality is vast and harmful, director and activist Jennifer Siebel-Newsom says.

"Women are aspiring to do great things in leadership, yet the glass ceiling is still there because of the way media depict women," Siebel-Newsom said. "It influences our culture and dictates our gender norms and values."

How many women actually try for these positions vs the number of men who do?

That is part of the problem they are adressing, not a counter argument.

Of course it's a counter arguement. If fewer women are interested in these positions the numbers would be skewed even if opportunity was 100% objective.

Which doesn't change the fact that males and females tend to have differing interests.

Of course women can believe in ****** stereotypes (partly brought to them by the media as the article claims) just the same as men. Women not aspiring to such positions is a big part of the problem.

You do realize how stereotypes come about don't you? Besides, what makes you think it's all about stereotypes anyway? Sure, there might be some effect there but not enough to account for the fact that, for example, in a typical engineering class there might be three or four females and forty-five guys.

Apparently people should be forced into roles they're not interested in so progressives can pat themselves on the back.

We have nearly half of them in parliament, they get same wage from same job, they have been as president and as prime minister and fill about half of the ministry posts.

Yet you still see them complain about class ceiling and call for quotas for ceo:s, despite the fact that they dont apply for those posts nearly as much. Its their problem, not the problem of system and laws.
