Air Force, Coast Guard talk C-27J deal
Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Robert Papp told lawmakers last week that he has talked with Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz about the feasibility of transferring C-27Js to the sea service. The Coast Guard is conducting a business case analysis of transferring the cargo haulers.

I think there are larger issues.
Since the USAF wanted to dump the C-27, Australia is now re-considering its FMC order from Lockheed.
The Aussies don't want to be a one off customer stuck with a C-27 fleet with limited spares and inter-operability. They had enough of that experience with the Caribou.
I guess the USAF touched several political nerves and are pushing the USCG to have them.
It was decided by the AF, after they fvcked the Army over and tried to kill the program.
HKDan: Alenia has declined to offer support for the C-27's if the US sold them to another country. For aircraft, manufacturer support is, as you know, crucial.

Other countries that Alenia is marketing the C-27 to have to money to pay for new airframes. Both Australia and Canada who are some of the US's closest allies and are not "too cheap to pay for their own defense." were/are interested in the C-27. I trust you were not referring to these allies as "too cheap to pay for their own defense."
Alenia is only offering the USAF the same level of support that US armament manufacturers have countless times offered to other countries, if military equipment is sold without manufacturer permission, they will not support it.
Now that the reverse has occurred for the USAF, I understand, it may be difficult to appreciate.
If the USAF refuses to buy, then Airbus gets the contracts.
Ok i'm having a hard time in understanding this ! Is the C27a good platform ? It is usefull to the AF/Army/CG whoever?
Why are they running away from it ?
And why would they believe the C-130 does a better job at it ? Isn't the C-130 a bigger plane ?
One ally that they can sell it too that Alenia might actually rethink their stance is the Philippines. We have Helicopters from Agusta, Trainer fleets from SIAI, so maybe the Italian government can pressure Alenia if the C27's were sent to the Philippines. HEll we are currently looking at the AMX and RADARS from that country... win win.
So the USCG needs another plane between the Herky and the HC-144´s? Don´t think so
But the C-295 is cheaper due to the larger numbers and manufacture support.
If the USAF refuses them, then nations will rethink the C-27 and opt for the C-295.
well yeah there is that so quit a predicament. Unless the Us pulls it weight with Canada and other allies to soothe Alenia
