    Default The Everything Organic thread

Many of us have no clue what exactly we are putting in our bodies everyday or what we rub on our skin everyday. This thread is dedicated to organic solutions and recipes to improve our health and body. Organic foods have our natural nutrients which is freshly preserved in its natural environment. White products such as white breads have only been around in the past 50 years yet have caused more cancers and diseases than in the past 1000 years. Food is crucial. Not only for survival but about the way we feel everyday. If we stop caring about the food we need, then our bodies will stop caring and will produce unwanted diseases. We go to the grocery store now and see rising prices. Fruits and Vegetables have gone up in price, many drenched in hidden pesticides.

There is nothing like eating organic through out the day. Organic oatmeal to start your morning is the best food you can eat. Organic oatmeal provides the best fiber you can buy. You can mix it with organic berries and flax seeds. Sprinkle cinnamon on top to receive a rush of antioxidants. Cinnamon has more antioxidants than a cup of berries! Juice a cup of carrot juice to release the bile in your liver for a natural detox. Enjoy your day with loose leaf tea's. Green, White, Oolong, Roobios, Dandelion, are all good choices to leave you calm, relaxed and a boost of metabolism and antioxidants.

Post your favorite organic recipes. I will continually post various organic food recipes that I personally use as well as homemade herbal body care idea's.

Went and saw an allergy specialist with my daughter a few weeks back. His advice with regard to children and organic products was to use the ones with known chemicals. His expert opinion was that there are dose response relationships for the chemicals, but not for natural products. He thought this in part explained the ongoing allergic reactions to peanuts etc with many children.

My point, organis is as good as the operator. Copper sulphate is used on organic farms, and needs to be used within limits, otherwise it can be worse than where you started.

I have heard this before. Many people have certain allergies or chemical reactions to certain foods or chemicals. With the amount of junk food companies add to foods, especially ones in boxes is astonishing.

I hear you on the additives. My daughter can't have a lot of them at the moment, finding safe stuff is hard, or expensive, or both.

Hey, I think you have an interesting post here that will no doubt spur a little discussion. For the record I have no problem with either organic production or conventional production methods in agriculture. They both have there pros and cons.

That being said, something you said in your original post caught my eye, and that is why I pulled it out. One thing that I would say is that chemicals are used in organic production just the same as they are in conventional production. I have a friend who raises onions and he uses a fungicide that is so toxic that he cannot apply it under his chemical applicators license. It can only be applied through commercial application. The interesting thing is that because it is derived from radish oil it is certified for organic use. He has said that it is much more toxic then anything else he uses. A good read can be found here, http://37c.org/lhom/food/organic.html. This was an essay put together by a grad student at UC-Berkeley and he is now at Cornell. The paper itself is a bit dated but he still has some good information.

That being said, I support the right for people to eat what they want and I am interested to see where this goes.

So what type of foods does she have to stay away from? Or chemicals?

Thanks for the article. I am aware of chemicals being used in organic farming. Ofcourse, true organic farms are not suppose use chemicals by law or there not "organic". I am sometimes ever weary of organic products at the store where they add even more deadly pesticides, such as pyrethrum. However, there are farms you can go to that do use very little or none at all. Products at stores that are kosher and have the "u" on the bottom are a good sign of natural ingredients. I personally grow many of my fruits and vegetables to ensure that I do not use any toxins. However, I buy my eggs and such else where. To me anyway, its still the best choice as oppose to the commercial brands. But buy some seeds and grow some of your own fruits and veggies. That is truly organic.

    Green Tea Facescrub:

    Ingrediants: Green tea, honey, sugar

    1. Boil hot water on the stove and brew a cup of green tea with a tea bag.

    2. Add two tablespoons of sugar in a bowl.

    3. Pour 1 tablespoon of green tea into the bowl ( Only 1 tablespoon).

    4. Mix it around until it feels like sand. Then add 1 more table spoon of sugar and mix it around some more.

    5. Add 1 tablespoon of honey and mix it around until it feels like sand.

    6. Apply to the face when wet for about a minute. Once you rinse your face, apply the green tea bag around your face for your finishing touch. (Great after shaving also!)

Id like to note, that most of the time organic foods dont have any more nutriets than regularly farmed foods, and when they do the difference is minimal. Larger indicator for the quality is the land, plant being grown and ripeness.

Benefits for nature are also questionable, as the drain for nature comes from the amount of fields we need to farm, with organic that amount is larger. Pesticides not being used can be a good thing.

We at least have quite strict rules about pesticides and such, so im not really worried.

There is a lot more information coming out on eating the foods that are good for you, meaning none of the added stuff. Interesting article is than everything needs not be organically grown, some have to be, because they will absorb pesticides. Some don't because they can be washed.

Also, there are good articles on how to eat, what to eat and in what order. With better understanding of how our body digest things, eating foods in a certain order is beneficial. I have been reading on some diets, some will say, avoiding cancer can be done on the right diet.

This is a good Idea for a thread.

Not only what we put in our bodies is important, but also the things we add to the earth. From dishwashing soap, to window cleaner, to laundry soap, bleaches... once it goes into the drain, it finds it's way into the land and into our food.

It's not always easy to be all organic all the time. When it's 5am and you're on the road, you need an egg McMuffin and hash brown.

We always make our own chicken broth every other month. One whole organic chicken, with feet (the feet are best for chicken stock) onions, celery, carrots, Kale and what ever else you want in there. Bring it to boil, then simmer for 8 hours in about a gallon of water. Then it's there for whatever you need.

Good point. Things like bell peppers, and things grown in the ground absorb a lot more chemicals than, say, apples.

Thanks for the info Hollis. I believe my envision for the thread is for the community to provide recipes and techniques that we could prepare at home to give us the best benefits possible to our bodies. I know that everybody cant grow and raise there own foods but I believe there are homemade strategies to help us prosper and protect our wallets.

That depends on where you are located. In the United States there is a long list of USDA approved chemicals that can be used in organic farming. The chemicals just have to be derived from an organic source, meaning nothing synthetic. To be honest, organic chemicals are some of the most toxic that I know of.

Kale is the best for you, Its disgusting (lol) but I put it in a juicer to resolve the taste. You may know this better than me but do you know the laws pertaining organic farming and distribution?
