Not much on this flight since it was a try out flight so mainly clothes and some food supplies were sent this time around, but the system showed its capability to send cargo, and one report I read said the turn around time on getting the rockets ready for launch is way faster then time it took to ready the shuttle that means more cargo and crew can be launched into space in a shorter turn around time and also cheaper.. Also if NASA is not paying Russia to send our Astronauts that means NASA can use that money to finish development on the new heavy lift rocket currently in development.

Saturn V was up in the sky. Iphone is in the pocket

Rapid availability of what would be perceived as pure sci-fi tech in the '80s (and even '90s) for the masses and the resulting desensitization was more of a point I tried to make.

Like said before, the Space industry is what is fueling (next to military, but in a lot of cases, these two go hand in hand) the technological revolution in Russia. Right now, Russia is going through a massive change economically, and their drive is towards technology. The big three industries in technology (defense, Space, and Energy) are the main ones driving the change, and they are much needed right now (space is what develops new electrical-optical devices and satelites and comm equipment, and these all have to come from somewhere). Remove one of these, and it will be a major hit not only to the Russian economy as a whole, but to the drive away from dependancy from natural resources. Yes, it is true that the infrastructure development in Russia needs to be adressed (roads and railway more percise) but these are being adressed (maybe not in mass amounts, but still is). Anyway, I digress. The point is, this dream will pave the way to new technologies being researched and developed, which a lot of these technologies can make it into the average household sometime down the road, or in the newest manufacturing capabilities, or etc etc etc.

I've always seen the Russians as MacGuyvers in Space : they can make stuff work with so little ! Also, the "It's ugly, but it works" principle. The space shuttle is grounded and a new vehicle has to be invented while the Soyuz still flies...

That's why I think they could do it.

Unfortunately, the Russians did not do much more in the field of space exploration than "planning" stuff pretty much since the fall of the Soviet Union. They did not launch a single successful space probe since then.

Which is a shame, I think, looking at all the great and highly reliable space hardware they engineered, like the venerable Sojus. Just look at all those western rocket engines based on Russian designs etc.

I hope it's more than high-flying plans this time. They need to actually get stuff DONE up there again.

Concentration has been to re-do their satellite constellation and the ISS more so than probing. But they are to do that again as well.

Let me know when its develop the mining laser beam II, make my life a world of sit back and relax
Would be f-ing awesome. Develop it to the point we can just beam a planet and suck the life out of it and haul it back to Earth, or Industrialised Mars. Am i getting ahead of the game here?

This is Canada's domain, and everyone will bow down to our might.

The fecking agaric mushrooms must be very strong this year considering the flow of articles about space stations in mars, revival of the old Soviet time divide of Europe and whatnot.
