Hmm wtf? I logged in just now and my barb has lost all his gear and gold and is at act 1?
For over a week already? I would have thought a couple of days.
However, I've already made some money / gold with selling rares on the AH. You should not sell items by making the price too expensive; my "tactic" is to sell cheap, for a price that most players can afford: 3000 gold. People that need an item won't wait two days, but just go ahead and buy it. Not possible with some of these insane prices..
Another solution if you don't want to sell the magics and rares: bring it to the blacksmith and convert them to crafting materials. You'll need these if you want to craft your own itens, set items and legendaries included.

Seems to be pretty common, blizzard just has deleted all those threads concerning this issue.
Total bull****, ive also only played single player. Why I think its not hacked, is that my other character still has all gear.
EDIT: Oh, their page is just down.

Could happen though.

Just discovered my friends are scattered across realms (some Europe, some Americas), which the game choses randomly for you, and we can't find each other on battle.net. We cant transfer our characters either across realms. What's worse is apparently blizzard have no intention of adding transfer functionality.
Nail in the coffin I'm afraid.
If people dont want to buy your crap they dont buy it. That has nothing to do with the auction house.
Maybe 1 in 10 of the yellow items I collect in inferno is sellable. The rest goes to the vendor instantly.
But once in a while you find a really good one that sells for millions.
Before inferno you wont find much that can be sold at a decent price. But on the other hand you can buy stuff cheap.
That trading commodities is disabled is really annoying though. They seem to have some huge problem with some exploits there.
Negative. When you have to create a Battle.Net account, you've got to choose a location. Buddy of mine is currently in the US and has to play on US servers, and just created a new Battle.Net account for Europe. Works fine.
It's true however that US and Europeans can't find each other in the game. Once your friends are on the same server as you, just search for their battletag (name#number) and your crew is good to go.
Yep. I now changed my passwords in all services and had different email for my gaming accounts.
If i get hacked again its quite clear the problem is on their side.
While we will make every effort to provide assistance in cases of loss, please keep in mind that the decision to go forward with a restoration is entirely at Blizzard's discretion. You can review our Restoration Policies at -

They have decided there is no way in hell they actually might have some problem of their own.

Mistake by the retailer? Would be interesting if its true
No.
I put my location as Australia but this has little to do with what server it puts your first character on. It's probably based off ping times when you log in via the game, which is extremely unreliable. People in the US have ended up on Europe servers, lots of people from Canada have ended up in Europe, etc.
I have friends scattered about across realms. It put me in Europe when Asia would have been the best. And once you're there your only option is to re-roll, because they won't support transfers. Absolutely ridiculous that you can't even chat/find each other across realms.
There are free replication tools out there (rsync) so its unacceptable that transferring or global profiles are not supported and don't plan to be (according to blizzard).
This really is a 2004 game, but with money grubbing 2012 thinking.
I had a similar problem, unknowingly I played on the US server while being from europe. Later I figured out it was becasue I had played the beta, and during beta I was forced to choose US as location. Even though I deleted beta, the configaration files remained saved so I was located to US when I installed the retail game.
Maybe it is different for Australia, as they dont have their own server, but in US or europe you are asked to choose your location.
Regarding money grabbing, I guess we can be glad that they didnt do it like they did with starcraft 2. In sc2 you can play with your copy only in one specific region. If as a European you want to play with American friends you have to get a second copy.
With d3 you can play on all servers with one copy.
Have you checked your system for trojans? A classmate of my brother got hacked (IT apprentice) and after a throughly search, he found a Java based trojan which could have been the door into his system. I am already paranoid in D3: I play only with my brother and avoid public games like the devil holy water. I also scan my harddrive frequently for trojans and other malware, but can't find anything. I haven't been hacked though, but better safe than sorry.
