The reporters that visited the site were shown the actual satellite that is supposed to be put into orbit not a mockup of it, but the rocket and payload is already on the launch pad along with nose section, there was no clean room methods in place for the satellite viewing meaning the sats optics were exposed to dust and stuff that reporters tracked in.. One reporter commented on this on his twitter account esp since the sat is supposed to be put into orbit but it seems the rocket is all ready for launch and to place the satellite onto the rocket would require the top section to be taken down and the sat installed on it in the processing building.

that sat looks like a fun lil' guy, but why the hell is it sitting on the ground in a pole barn ? that rocket looks absolutely ready to go, are they going to now remove the capsule assembly to add the satellite after the rocket is sitting completed on the pad? what the hell.

the planted conifers are an attractive touch, though.

Well.. they said 12-16 as date and now it's 04.20 of Monday 9 Seul time...
    Still three official days...
Maybe they've delayed the insertion of the satellite for showing at the press that's real (the previous one was never shown, and the very first one exist only an old black and white picture). They can transport it on the top and insert it into the compartment. It's not something too complicated expecially if all the other things are prepared.

As you said the rocket is already on the launch pad and ready to go, the top nose section installed and is secured in place. for the satellite to be installed proper the top stage would have to be taken down from the rocket and brought back to the processing building for the satellite package to be installed in a clean environment were care could be taken for proper installation of of the package. for them to install the satellite on the tower would mean bringing the satellite out into the elements and weather while it was being installed on the nose section and also could expose the delicate parts to shock or debris not the best move to do..

It would have been better for the reporters to be brought up to the top of the tower and shown the satellite installed on the nose section proving this is what is going to be launched, not shown the satellite at a building half a mile down the road from the launch pad.

It will take two days to start fueling the rocket, for that to take place all stages have to be in-place and the pad clear of personal except those doing the fueling. and it is a tricky stage installing stuff in the nose section that's why its more realistic for the final stage to be placed on the rocket once the sat is installed in it.

    That's the BBC video
one thing it's sure... how they seems all worried/nervous... look the guide/translator and the guy that reply at the answer.
I've seen others video with NorthKorean showing stuff at European/western, but didn't seems so anxious.
About the satellite ... they've still have some days to do the procedure, expecially if the date it's 12-16 (as planned) and not 10.
Or they can really transport and insert it from above, i'm quiet sure that they've not much caring to not put dust/dirt inside the satellite...
The guy with the cane almost touch it INSIDER it !! ... from that whole video it seems that they're not quiet "relaxed"
Probably their main hope it's to try to reach a long distance (for military show of strenght) and try to put it in orbite.... if the satellite it's operative or not much, that can be maybe their last objective.

However i find a bit "trivial" the comment of BBC... that countryside it's far better then the one in south italy (my country).
But the direct question of the journalist was pretty corageous...

I wonder how stable this cube can be in an orbit.

Since the panels are hinged I expect the sides fold out on both sides.

This is actually hillarious in all fairness A nation so closed off from society prepares to launch a rocket carrying a satelite that is going to broadcast songs liked by there eternal glorious leader lol How many folk in NK has the ability to tune in and listen not fukin many infact it's very remote

And the Americans a annoyed .. one lot saying it's a rocket and another lot saying it's a test bed for Nuclear missle's no matter what way you view it's very hypocritical of the US when all those Saturn launches do fall under the same bracket ..

............... .. tbh Who are the bigger threat or is it because People in Politics actually being prejudgemental .

Actually North Korea has all over sudden been open about the launch. Somewhat a change of tactic.
As the west has raised its concern and is reading anti missile systems NK has invited reporters and displayed a payload (might not be the payload though). They see the benefits of media.

Is this testing a range of potential missile? Yes.
Has NK played a good PR game? Yes.
Is this rocket a potential military rocket that can be deployed quickly against the US? Not Sure

    N.Korea Completes Assembling Rocket
North Korea has apparently finished assembling a three-stage rocket at its launch pad in Tongchang-ri, North Pyongyang Province and there are signs that it is preparing for another nuclear test.

A government source here said, "North Korea appears to have completed assembling the second and third stages of the rocket at the launch pad on Saturday after setting up the first stage on Friday." The source added, "A payload believed to be a small satellite has also been mounted. The launch is expected around Saturday after liquid fuel is injected this week."

The government source added analysis of satellite images show an increasingly large pile of soil forming along the southern entrance of the North's nuclear test site in Punggye-ri, North Hamgyong Province, which appears to have come from another site, "so it looks like they buried a nuclear weapon for testing and are covering it up."

Prior to an underground nuclear test, a shaft is dug, the nuclear weapon is placed inside and the shaft filled up. The fact that soil has piled up in front of the shaft that was dug in the second half of last year could mean a nuclear device has been placed there and is now being covered.

Default Is N.Korea Planning Another Nuclear Test?

News reports suggest North Korea may be trying to reprise the provocations of 2009 and conduct a nuclear test after firing a long-range missile. The North conducted its second nuclear test on May 25, 2009 shortly after it was slapped with UN sanctions over the launch of a long-range missile on April 5 that year.

    ◆ 2009 Redux

Now intelligence officials apparently worry that the regime could do the same thing again. The North announced on March 16 that it would launch what it claims is a space rocket on any clear day between April 12 and 16. All members of the six-party nuclear talks have called on Pyongyang to scrap the launch. U.S. President Barack Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao, who attended the Nuclear Security Summit last month, urged the North to pay more attention to the wellbeing of its people than a missile launch.

A high-ranking government official here said the whole thing was calculated. "North Korea is staging preparations for a nuclear test at the Punggye-ri test site, which is under surveillance by U.S. spy satellites, in case the international community responds with sanctions" to what is widely believed to be a balletic missile test.

◆ Strengthening Regime's Grip on Power

Experts say the regime is pushing ahead with the tests to bolster new leader Kim Jong-un's rule. "Kim Jong-un is seeking to celebrate North Korea's emergence as a 'powerful and prosperous' with the long-range missile launch and nuclear test to try and consolidate the legitimacy of his rule," said Paik Hak-soon at the Sejong Institute. "At the same time, North Korea is also warning the U.S. not to break its Feb. 29 agreement with Pyongyang," which pledged food aid if the North halts nuclear weapons and long-range missile development.

The North Korean regime has conducted nuclear tests every time things do not go its way. Pyongyang forced Washington to scrap financial sanctions by conducting its first nuclear test in October 2006, while clamping down on internal unrest triggered by former leader Kim Jong-il's poor health back in 2009 with a second nuclear test in May that year.

The device the North is about to test is likely to be more powerful than the 4,000-ton bomb detonated in 2009. A military official here said, "If it's determined, North Korea can get ready for a nuclear test in just two weeks. Unlike the first and second tests, which involved plutonium, there is a good chance that the next test will involve highly enriched uranium."

◆ Pressuring Washington for More Food Aid

Other experts believe North Korea is using the threat of another nuclear test as a ploy to gain more food aid. Baek Seung-joo at the Korea Institute for Defense Analyses said, "It's clear that North Korea is preparing for a nuclear test, but it's unclear whether it will actually conduct the test or use it simply as leverage for further talks. The aim is to pressure the U.S."

And Yang Moo-jin of the University of North Korean Studies said, "North Korea is making visible preparations for a third nuclear test to tell Washington it wants to hold nuclear arms reduction talks as a fully fledged nuclear state." But Yang added it is unlikely the North has enough highly enriched uranium to make a nuclear bomb.
