Thread: 100% Cotton, Combat shirt?

  1. #1

    Default 100% Cotton, Combat shirt?

I've sitting here looking at rip stop 100% cotton light weight cotton. the old Woodland BDU.

I've seen some of these Combat shirts and modern ACU tops that have Nylon. I'm really interested if they made 100% cotton Multicam tops and bottoms like the woodland cammies. or even a combat shirt. woodland/marpat/multicam .

anyone have any ideas? Short of getting an Under armor shirt and sewing woodland sleeves on it.

This is 60/40. Why do you want a 100% cotton shirt? A blend works far better in terms of durability, insulation and moisture wicking.

I think Propper did some 100% cotton multicam BDUs.

what's the USMC uniform made out of? the Army one seems to have more nylon in it that n the marines.

Edit, Army ACU's are 60/40, USMC are 50/50. hence more Cotton, and feel less stiff than the plastic cheap ****o bedsheets the 60/40 feels like.

Do they make a combat shirt with 50/50 sleeves and a UnderArmor type body?

The combat shirt issue by the Army is made by Massif...and well unlike the Propper ones for the Corps which have a quarter zip...they cost about 3xas much also being FR and stuff...it's also a compression shirt and has a ton of spandex unlike the FROG that the Corp wears.

i see the Frog one on Propper comes in all types of camo. Except u.s. woodland
you're saying the massif one in ACU is all kinds of expensive more for being an overglorified workout shirt?

In Afghanistan the locals who worked for me wore green tiger stripe. Some had ripstop and others had 100% cotton like the old woodlands. It was very common for them (and a lot of Americans) to take a cotton GI skivvie shirt and a cammie blouse to the base tailor and have him sew the sleeves and shoulders of the blouse to the body of the skivvie shirt. Voila! Instant custom combat shirt.

Cotton BDUs are very comfortable, but they are not durable by any means. They will fray and fade very fast. That is why the first gen 100% cotton BDUs were replaced by 50/50 Ripstop Nylon/Poly-Cotton blends. Cotton is also highly flammable and does not dry very fast. Also it shrinks. I have lived for months in ACUs. There is nothing wrong with 50/50 blend.

BDU.com only lists 100% cotton BDUs in Woodland/DCU and solid colors. No Multicam.

Best bet, wear 100% cotton undershirt or moisture wicking shirt.

I personally like these as they feel very soft

Also, official issued ACUs are 50/50 Nylon Cotton Ripstop. Anything else is unofficial reproductions.

all UCP uniforms i've seen from Propper have been 60/40 All MARPAT uniforms have been 50/50 twill. i Have yet to find something as soft as the 50/50 woodlands.

100% cotton is NOT flammable. It will smolder but it will definitely not burn, don't be afraid of that. I'd be more afraid of high-percentage synthetic fibers melting.

Your thinking of Wool, but even wool is flammible, but not as much as cotton.
